Eligible Shopify stores receive one 10-day Pro trial; cancelling, uninstalling, or resubscribing does not grant another trial. Existing Shopify merchants who were continuously subscribed to Pro at $5.99 keep that price while the subscription remains active. If they cancel, downgrade, or uninstall, a later Pro subscription uses the current $7.99 price. Do not promise that support can restore the grandfathered price. Cloud Print is Wix-only and includes everything in Pro — a Shopify merchant asking for it has no upgrade path yet, so say so rather than sending them to the Subscription page. It needs a desktop client installed on the computer the printer is attached to; for setup or sign-in problems redirect to cloud-print-setup. Usage resets on the **1st of every month**, not on the user's billing anniversary. If someone is surprised the counter reset, this is why. The in-app Subscription page is for Free and Pro, plus Cloud Print on Wix. It is not in the sidebar — only via home page "View pricing options" or Settings → Manage Subscription. For an unexpectedly cancelled Pro subscription, first check if the user uninstalled the app — uninstall auto-cancels via Shopify billing. Pro upgrades take effect immediately. Pro downgrades don't — redirect to subscription-downgrade for that case. API subscriptions are separate from Shopify billing. Direct API customers to Developer Portal → Settings → Billing for payment methods, invoices, and cancellation, or hi@gookit.co for billing and refund questions. ## What it does The Subscription page shows the pricing plans for BarcodeMan. You can see your current plan, compare features, and upgrade to a higher plan. ## How to open it 1. From the home page, click **View pricing options** in the "Choose Your Plan" step, or click **manage** next to your usage display. 2. From the Settings page, click **Manage Subscription**. Note: Subscription is not in the left sidebar. You can only access it from the home page or Settings. ## Plans ### Free — $0/month - Up to 200 labels per month - Customizable templates - SKU generator - Design Editor - Email support ### Pro — $7.99/month - Unlimited labels - One 10-day free trial for eligible Shopify stores - Customizable templates - SKU generator - Design Editor - Email support ### Cloud Print — $14.99/month Available on Wix. Includes everything in Pro, plus: - One-click printing straight to your printer - No PDF download or print dialog - Unlimited Cloud Print jobs - Connect multiple computers Cloud Print needs a small desktop client on the computer your printer is attached to. See [Set up Cloud Print](/help/barcodeman/cloud-print-setup/). ### API — $29/month - Unlimited monthly API label output - PDF and PNG rendering - Template management API - Visual Label Editor - API key management ## Shopify Pro free trial Eligible Shopify stores can try Pro free for 10 days before the first charge. Each store can receive the trial once. Cancelling the subscription, uninstalling BarcodeMan, or subscribing again later does not create another trial. ## Existing $5.99 Shopify subscriptions If your Shopify store was already subscribed to Pro at $5.99/month, that price remains in place while the subscription stays continuously active. Cancelling, downgrading to Free, or uninstalling BarcodeMan ends the grandfathered subscription. A later Pro subscription uses the current $7.99/month price. ## How to upgrade ### Free and Pro 1. Go to the Subscription page. 2. Find the Pro plan. 3. Click the **Upgrade** button. 4. Follow the Shopify checkout to confirm your subscription. ### Cloud Print 1. Go to the Subscription page. 2. Find the Cloud Print plan and click **Upgrade**. 3. Install the Cloud Print client and link it with a pairing code — see [Set up Cloud Print](/help/barcodeman/cloud-print-setup/). ### API 1. Open the [BarcodeMan Developer Portal](https://developers.barcodeman.app/login). 2. Create a developer account or sign in. 3. Subscribe to the API plan from the developer portal. ## Good to know - Free and Pro include customizable templates, SKU generator, Design Editor, and email support. - Free gives you 200 labels per month; Pro removes the in-app label limit; Cloud Print adds one-click printing to your own printer; API enables programmatic label generation. - Eligible stores can use one 10-day Pro trial. Reinstalling or resubscribing does not reset trial eligibility. - Existing $5.99 Pro subscriptions keep that price only while they remain continuously active. - Cloud Print is available on Wix and includes everything in Pro. - Your label usage resets on the 1st of each month. - Free and Pro subscriptions are managed through Shopify. A Pro subscription will be automatically cancelled if you uninstall the app. - API subscriptions are managed separately through the BarcodeMan Developer Portal. --- ### Upgrade, Downgrade, or Cancel Your Plan - URL: https://gookit.co/help/barcodeman/subscription-downgrade/ - Product: barcodeman - Category: billing - Area: billing - Last verified: 2026-08-14 - Created: 2026-04-18 - Keywords: upgrade plan, downgrade plan, cancel plan, pending plan change, billing cycle, switch plan, change plan, api billing, developer portal, grandfathered price, free trial **Summary:** How to change or cancel BarcodeMan plans, including Shopify trial eligibility and the effect on grandfathered $5.99 Pro subscriptions. **Agent playbook (guidance for AI assistants):** For Free and Pro, the critical difference is: **upgrades are instant, downgrades are scheduled**. Downgrades only activate at the end of the current billing cycle — the user keeps their current tier's benefits until then. If a user sees "pending plan change" and asks "is my plan wrong?": no — it means their scheduled downgrade is queued and will activate at cycle end. Free and Pro billing goes through Shopify's billing API. Users can downgrade to Free or uninstall the app, which cancels the Shopify subscription. A continuously active legacy $5.99 Shopify Pro subscription keeps its price. Cancelling, downgrading, or uninstalling ends that entitlement; a later Pro subscription is $7.99 and does not grant another 10-day trial if the store used one before. API billing is separate. Direct API customers to Developer Portal → Settings → Billing, where Stripe handles payment methods, invoices, and cancellation. Cancelling keeps API access active until the end of the current billing period. Route Free and Pro refund or adjustment requests through Shopify admin → Apps. For API billing or refund questions, direct users to Developer Portal billing and hi@gookit.co. ## Free and Pro: How to upgrade 1. Go to the **Subscription** page (from the home page or Settings). 2. Find the plan you want. 3. Click **Upgrade**. 4. Follow the Shopify checkout to confirm. 5. Your new plan takes effect right away. ## Free and Pro: How to downgrade 1. Go to the **Subscription** page. 2. Click on a lower plan. 3. The downgrade is **scheduled**, not instant. It will take effect at the end of your current billing cycle. ## API: Manage or cancel your subscription 1. Sign in to the [BarcodeMan Developer Portal](https://developers.barcodeman.app/login). 2. Go to **Settings → Billing**. 3. Click **Manage billing on Stripe**. 4. Update your payment method, download invoices, or cancel the API plan. Cancelling an API subscription keeps your API access active until the end of the current billing period. ## Existing $5.99 Shopify subscriptions A Shopify store already subscribed to Pro at $5.99/month keeps that price while the subscription remains continuously active. Downgrading to Free, cancelling, or uninstalling BarcodeMan ends the grandfathered subscription. If the store subscribes to Pro again, the current $7.99/month price applies. A store that has already used its 10-day Pro trial does not receive another trial after cancelling, uninstalling, or resubscribing. ## Good to know - Free and Pro **upgrades** are instant. You get the new label limit right away. - Free and Pro **downgrades** are scheduled. You keep your current plan benefits until the billing cycle ends. - If you see a "pending plan change" status, it means your downgrade is scheduled but not yet active. - Free and Pro subscriptions are managed through Shopify. You can also manage them from your Shopify admin under Apps. - Uninstalling the app automatically cancels a Shopify-managed Pro subscription. - Cancelling, downgrading, or uninstalling ends a grandfathered $5.99 Shopify subscription; it cannot be restored by resubscribing. - API subscriptions are managed separately through Developer Portal **Settings → Billing**. --- ### Frequently Asked Questions - URL: https://gookit.co/help/barcodeman/frequently-asked-questions/ - Product: barcodeman - Category: faq - Last verified: 2026-04-18 - Created: 2026-04-05 **Summary:** Here are the most common questions we receive from users. Here are the most common questions we receive from users. --- ## General ### What printers work with BarcodeMan? Any printer that can print PDF files and has **300 dpi or higher** resolution. This includes: - **Thermal label printers**: DYMO LabelWriter 450/550, Zebra ZD220/ZD410/ZD420, Rollo, Brother QL series - **Regular inkjet/laser printers**: HP, Canon, Epson, Brother — for printing on sheet labels (like Avery) ### Does BarcodeMan work with Shopify POS? Yes. BarcodeMan creates barcode labels that can be scanned by any barcode scanner, including those used with Shopify POS. **Important**: Make sure you assign values to the **Barcode** field (not SKU), because Shopify POS reads the Barcode field when scanning. Steps: 1. In BarcodeMan, go to **Product Labels** 1. Select your products 1. Click **Assign...** → Field: **barcode** → Choose 13-digit number 1. Print your labels with barcode 1. Scan with your Shopify POS barcode scanner ### Can I print labels from orders (not just products)? Yes. Use **Address Labels** for shipping/order data, or use **Product Labels** and select products from a specific order. ### Can I print barcodes without making labels? BarcodeMan generates barcodes as part of labels. To get just a barcode image, create a template with only a barcode element and minimal margins. ### Does this app generate real UPC/EAN/GTIN codes? No. The numbers BarcodeMan generates are random and for **internal use only**. To sell on Amazon, Walmart, or Google Shopping, you need to purchase real GTINs from [GS1](https://www.gs1.org/) . See our [Barcode Format Guide](/help/barcodeman/barcode-formats/) for more details. --- ## Printing ### How do I print after I preview? After generating labels, BarcodeMan opens a PDF. Use your browser's print function (Ctrl+P / Cmd+P) or the print button in the PDF viewer. ### Can I download the labels as a PDF file? Yes. In BarcodeMan **Settings**, turn on the **Download** option instead of **Print**. The PDF will be saved to your computer. ### Why is my printer printing blank labels? Common causes: 1. **Browser pop-up blocker** is preventing the PDF from opening — go to Settings and enable "Ignore browser pop-ups blocker" 1. **No barcode data** — make sure your products have values in the Barcode or SKU field 1. **Paper sensor issue** — check the printer hardware See [Thermal Printer Feeds Blank Labels Before Printing](/help/barcodeman/problem-of-blank-label-printing/) for details. ### What paper/label size should I use? It depends on what you're printing: - **Price tags / small labels**: Roll labels (e.g., DYMO 30336 at 57mm × 32mm) - **Product labels with details**: Sheet labels (e.g., Avery 5160 at 66mm × 25.4mm on Letter paper) - **Shipping labels**: Large roll labels (e.g., 4" × 6" on DYMO 4XL) ### Does BarcodeMan remember my last used settings? Yes. BarcodeMan remembers your last selected template and printer settings per label type (Product Label and Address Label). When you return, it pre-selects the same template you used last time. --- ## Barcodes & SKUs ### What's the difference between SKU and Barcode? - **SKU** (Stock Keeping Unit): An internal code you create for inventory management - **Barcode**: A scannable code used at checkout or for tracking In your store, these are two separate fields on each product variant. ### How do I assign barcodes to my products? 1. Go to **Product Labels** page 1. Select your products 1. Click **Assign...** → Choose **barcode** → Select 13-digit or 8-digit 1. Click **Update** The values will be written to your products automatically. ### How do I use my own SKU numbers as barcodes? In the Assign dialog, choose **Sync with SKU**. This copies your existing SKU values into the Barcode field. ### Several products have the same barcode — how do I fix this? Each product variant should have a unique barcode. To fix: 1. Go to Shopify Admin → Products 1. Find the products with duplicate barcodes 1. Clear the barcode values 1. In BarcodeMan, use **Assign** to generate new unique values --- ## Templates ### Can I duplicate a template? Currently, there is no built-in duplicate button. To copy a template: 1. Create a new template with the same dimensions 1. Recreate the elements manually ### How do I change the barcode format on my template? 1. Open the template editor 1. Click on the barcode element 1. In the properties panel, change the **Barcode Format** dropdown (e.g., from EAN-13 to CODE128) ### Can I use Avery labels? Yes. When creating a template, set the paper size and label dimensions to match your Avery model. See our [Sheet Label Template](/help/barcodeman/sheet-label-template/) guide for setup steps. --- ## Billing ### How do I cancel or downgrade my plan? You can manage your subscription from the BarcodeMan **Settings** page or through your Shopify/Wix app management page. ### What counts as a "label" in my usage quota? Each label generated counts as one unit, regardless of whether you actually print it. --- ### Address Label Printing - URL: https://gookit.co/help/barcodeman/address-labels/ - Product: barcodeman - Category: features - Area: address-labels - Last verified: 2026-04-18 - Created: 2026-04-18 - Keywords: address label, shipping label, order label, print address, draft order label, customer address, fulfilment label **Summary:** Print shipping address labels for orders and draft orders. Covers importing orders into the queue, assigning a template, and generating labels. **Agent playbook (guidance for AI assistants):** First verify the user is using an **address label template**, not a product label template — the two use entirely different data fields. A symptom of this mix-up is blank fields on the printed label. Confirm they imported orders via **Import Orders** and picked either "From orders" or "From draft orders" — the dropdown is easy to miss. If "Generate labels" is greyed out, walk through the checklist: (1) orders added to queue, (2) address label template selected in the dropdown. For field-level issues (wrong address line, missing phone), redirect to link-to-data-binding — address label text fields are documented there. ## What it does Address Labels lets you print shipping labels for your orders. You pick orders, choose a template, and print. Each label shows order and customer data like name, address, and shipping info based on your template design. ## How to use it 1. Go to **Address labels** from the left sidebar in your app. 2. You will see the Address Labels page with two tabs: **Printing Queue** and **Template Design**. 3. Click the **Import Orders** button to add orders to your printing queue. 4. Choose where to import from: - **From orders** — Pick from your orders - **From draft orders** — Pick from your draft orders 5. Select the orders you want, then add them to the queue. 6. Back in the Printing Queue, you can: - **Set quantity** — Set how many labels to print for each order - **Clear all** — Remove all orders from the queue 7. Choose a template from the **Select a template** dropdown at the top. The dropdown shows all your address label templates. 8. Click **Generate [N] labels** to create the labels for printing. ## Template Design tab Click the **Template Design** tab to preview how your labels will look with the selected template. You need to select a template first. ## Good to know - Address labels use order data, not product data. The template should have elements linked to order fields like customer name, address, city, country, etc. - You can import orders from regular orders or draft orders. - The "Generate labels" button is disabled until you add orders and select a template. - Address label templates are separate from product label templates. Make sure you select an address label template, not a product label template. --- ### Upload Products via CSV - URL: https://gookit.co/help/barcodeman/csv-upload/ - Product: barcodeman - Category: features - Area: csv - Last verified: 2026-04-18 - Created: 2026-04-18 - Keywords: csv upload, bulk import, import products csv, variant id csv, sku csv, barcode csv, upload product list, external product list **Summary:** Bulk-add products to the BarcodeMan printing queue by uploading a CSV with variant IDs, SKUs, or barcodes. Auto-detects column format. **Agent playbook (guidance for AI assistants):** First row of the CSV **must** be headers — this is the most common user error. If the first row is data, the first product will be silently skipped. The app auto-detects columns. If a CSV has Variant ID, SKU, and Barcode, Variant ID is most reliable (unique, exact match). If using SKU or Barcode, values must match exactly what's in Shopify — leading/trailing whitespace, zero-padding, or case differences will cause misses. "Some products didn't import": expected behaviour when the SKU/barcode doesn't match a Shopify variant. Ask the user to spot-check a failed row's value against Shopify admin. For very large CSVs, split into chunks. The app does not create/modify Shopify products — it only looks them up. ## What it does You can upload a CSV file to add products to your printing queue. This is useful when you have a list of products from an external system, or when you want to print labels for a specific set of items. ## How to use it 1. Go to **Product label** from the left sidebar. 2. Click the **Select** button, then choose **Upload CSV...**. 3. Select your CSV file from your computer. 4. The app will automatically detect the format of your CSV and match the products. ## CSV format The app auto-detects your CSV format. You can use any of these column layouts: ### Option 1: Variant ID Your CSV has a column with Shopify variant IDs. The app looks up each variant directly. ### Option 2: SKU + Barcode Your CSV has both SKU and Barcode columns. The app uses both to find the matching variant. ### Option 3: SKU or Barcode Your CSV has either a SKU column or a Barcode column. The app uses whichever one is available to find the matching variant. ## Example CSV ``` SKU,Barcode ABC-001,4901234567890 ABC-002,4901234567891 DEF-001, ``` ## Good to know - The first row of your CSV should be the column headers. - The app auto-detects which columns are present. You do not need to match exact header names. - If a product cannot be found by the given SKU or barcode, it will be skipped. - You may see a warning if some rows have unusual or missing data. - There is a maximum number of rows per upload. If you have a very large list, split it into smaller files. - The CSV upload only adds products to the printing queue. It does not create or modify products in your store. --- ### Display Product Variants with Filter Options - URL: https://gookit.co/help/barcodeman/display-product-variants-with-filter-options/ - Product: barcodeman - Category: features - Last verified: 2026-06-03 - Created: 2026-04-05 **Summary:** When you link a text element to Variant, it shows all variant option values by default (e.g., "Red / Large"). You can hide specific options so the label shows only what you want. When you link a text element to **Variant**, it shows **all** variant option values by default (e.g., "Red / Large"). You can hide specific options so the label shows only the ones you want. ## How to hide an option 1. In the template editor, select a **Text** element. 1. Set **Link To** → **Variant**. 1. Under **Variant options to hide**, click **+ Add option name** and type the **option name** you want to hide (e.g. `Color`, `Size`, `Material`). 1. That option is removed from this element; anything not listed stays visible. To show it again, remove the tag. > **Type the option _name_, not the value.** Add `Color` (the option), not `Red` (the value). For a drink with an `Ice` option, add `Ice` to hide it — not `No ice`. ## Examples Product has options: **Color**, **Size**, **Material**. - Show only Color → add `Size` and `Material` to hide → label shows **"Red"** - Show Color + Size → add `Material` to hide → label shows **"Red / Large"** ## Tips - Add multiple text elements, each hiding different options — e.g. one element showing Color and another showing Size, positioned separately on the label. - The separator between options is " / " by default. - The option name must match your store's option name exactly (e.g. `Color` vs `Colour`). A name that doesn't match is simply ignored, so the option keeps showing. --- ### Product Label Printing - URL: https://gookit.co/help/barcodeman/product-labels/ - Product: barcodeman - Category: features - Area: product-labels - Last verified: 2026-04-18 - Created: 2026-04-18 - Keywords: product label, print product label, barcode label, price label, printing queue, variant label, import products, select products for printing **Summary:** Print labels for products using data like name, price, barcode, and SKU. Import products from your store, orders, transfers, Stocky, or CSV upload. **Agent playbook (guidance for AI assistants):** Verify the user has selected a **product label template** (not address). Blank fields on the printed label are usually a template type mismatch or missing product data. If they cannot find their products in the selection dialog, point them at search-and-filter — the search box disables when a Collection or Saved Search filter is active, a common gotcha. If they hit "Too many variants selected (max 300)", redirect to variant-limit for the batching workaround. For bulk workflows, nudge them toward CSV upload (csv-upload) or Stocky import (stocky-integration) — much faster than manual selection. If a product appears to be missing SKU/barcode data, mention the SKU generator (sku-generator). ## What it does Product Label lets you print labels for your products. You pick the products, choose a template, and print. Each label shows product data like name, price, barcode, or SKU based on your template design. ## How to use it 1. Go to **Product label** from the left sidebar in your app. 2. You will see the Product Label page with two tabs: **Printing Queue** and **Template Design**. 3. Click the **Select** button to add products to your printing queue. 4. Choose where to select from: - **From products** — Pick products from your store - **From orders** — Pick line items from orders - **From draft orders** — Pick items from draft orders - **From transfers** — Pick items from inventory transfers - **From Stocky purchase order** — Pick items from Stocky purchase orders ([legacy — Stocky is being sunset](/help/barcodeman/stocky-integration/)) - **Upload CSV...** — Upload a CSV file with product data 5. In the product selection dialog, you can search, filter by collection, and sort products. Each product shows its name, SKU, barcode, and number of variants. 6. Select the products you want (up to 300 variants at a time), then click **Add**. 7. Back in the Printing Queue, you can: - **Sort by** — Change the order of items in the queue - **All Locations** — Filter by inventory location - **Assign...** — Assign a template to selected items - **Set quantity** — Set how many labels to print for each item - **Clear all** — Remove all items from the queue 8. Choose a template from the **Select a template** dropdown at the top. The dropdown shows all your product label templates with their names and descriptions. 9. Click **Generate [N] labels** to create the labels for printing. ## Template Design tab Click the **Template Design** tab to see a preview of how your labels will look with the selected template. You need to select a template first. ## Good to know - You can select products from many sources: products, orders, draft orders, transfers, [Stocky (legacy)](/help/barcodeman/stocky-integration/), or CSV upload. - The product selection dialog shows product name, SKU, and barcode columns. - You can filter products by collection (like VANS, ADIDAS, NIKE, etc.) and sort by various criteria (created date, title, inventory level, vendor, etc.). - The maximum selection is 300 variants at a time. - The template dropdown includes a "Create new template" button if you need a new design. - The "Generate labels" button shows the count of labels that will be created. It is disabled until you add products and select a template. --- ### Search and Filter Products - URL: https://gookit.co/help/barcodeman/search-and-filter/ - Product: barcodeman - Category: features - Area: product-selection - Last verified: 2026-04-18 - Created: 2026-04-18 - Keywords: search products, filter products, collection filter, saved search, sort products, find product for label, search disabled **Summary:** Find products quickly in the selection dialog using search, collection filter, saved searches, and multiple sort options. Also covers queue sorting. **Agent playbook (guidance for AI assistants):** The #1 support question here: "search box is greyed out / disabled". Cause is a Collection or Saved Search filter is active — search and filters are mutually exclusive. Tell the user to reset Collection to "Collection..." (default) to re-enable search. Search has a ~1s debounce. Users often think it's broken when it's just waiting — advise them to stop typing and wait a beat. If they can't find a specific variant, remind them: search matches **product name**, not SKU or barcode. For SKU/barcode lookups, use CSV upload. For large catalogues, sorting by Updated/Created (newest first) is usually most helpful. ## What it does When you select products for printing, you can search by name and filter by collection or saved search to find the right products quickly. ## How to search 1. In the product selection dialog, type in the **Search** box. 2. Results update after a short delay (about 1 second). 3. The search matches product names. ## How to filter - **Collection** — Select a collection from the dropdown (like "VANS", "NIKE", "SALE", etc.) to show only products in that collection. - **Saved Search** — Select a saved search to apply a pre-defined filter. - **Sort** — Change the order of results: - Created (newest / oldest first) - Updated (newest / oldest first) - Title A-Z / Z-A - High / Low Inventory - Product Type A-Z / Z-A - Vendor A-Z / Z-A ## Sorting in the printing queue After products are in the queue, you can sort them by: - Name A-Z / Z-A - SKU A-Z / Z-A ## Good to know - **Search is disabled when a filter is active.** If you select a Collection or Saved Search, the search box becomes disabled. Clear the filter first to search by name. - There is a small delay when typing in the search box. This is normal — the app waits until you stop typing before searching. - The product list uses pagination. Click **Next** and **Previous** to browse through pages. - Each product row shows the product name, number of variants, SKU, and barcode. Click the variant count to expand and see individual variants. --- ### Set Print Quantity - URL: https://gookit.co/help/barcodeman/set-quantity/ - Product: barcodeman - Category: features - Area: printing-queue - Last verified: 2026-04-18 - Created: 2026-04-18 - Keywords: set quantity, print multiple copies, duplicate labels, labels per item, bulk quantity, how many labels to print **Summary:** Change how many label copies to print per item in the queue. A bulk action that updates every selected row at once. **Agent playbook (guidance for AI assistants):** Set Quantity is a **bulk** action — it changes the count for all selected items at once. If the user wants different quantities for different items, they need to select items in batches and apply separately. Total label count shown on the "Generate [N] labels" button = sum of all item quantities. If the user is surprised by the total, walk them through the math: items × each item's quantity. If no checkboxes are ticked, Set Quantity applies across the full queue. Ticking a subset scopes it to just those rows. ## What it does The Set Quantity feature lets you control how many labels to print for each item in your printing queue. By default, each item prints one label. You can increase this number to print multiple copies. ## How to use it 1. Add products or orders to your printing queue. 2. Select the items you want to change (using the checkboxes), or use this for all items. 3. Click the **Set quantity** button in the toolbar. 4. Enter the number of labels you want for each selected item. 5. The total label count in the "Generate labels" button will update to reflect your changes. ## Good to know - Set Quantity changes the count for all selected items at once. This is a bulk action. - The total shown on the "Generate labels" button equals the sum of all quantities across all items in the queue. - For example, if you have 10 products and set quantity to 3 for all, you will generate 30 labels. - You can set different quantities for different items by selecting them in batches. --- ### Settings - URL: https://gookit.co/help/barcodeman/settings/ - Product: barcodeman - Category: features - Area: settings - Last verified: 2026-04-18 - Created: 2026-04-18 - Keywords: settings, preferences, language, pop-up blocker, popup blocker, stocky api key, manage subscription, change language **Summary:** Configure BarcodeMan preferences including app language, browser pop-up behavior, subscription management, and the Stocky integration API key. **Agent playbook (guidance for AI assistants):** If the user reports a printing issue (blank page, PDF not opening), verify the "Ignore browser pop-ups blocker" setting is ON before troubleshooting further — this is the #1 cause of silent print failures. For Stocky setup questions: confirm they have an active Stocky account first. The key is generated inside Stocky (Preference → API access), not inside BarcodeMan. Language changes take effect app-wide. If a user says the UI is in the wrong language, Settings is the first place to check. Uninstalling the app auto-cancels the Shopify subscription — remind users before they uninstall if they want to pause instead. ## What it does The Settings page lets you manage your BarcodeMan preferences. You can change the app language, configure browser settings, manage your subscription, and set up integrations. ## How to open it Go to **Settings** from the left sidebar in your app. ## Subscription At the top of the Settings page, you can see your current plan (for example: "free"). Click **Manage Subscription** to change your plan or view pricing options. You can also uninstall or upgrade BarcodeMan from the Manage App Section of your Shopify admin. Your subscription will be automatically cancelled when you uninstall. ## Browser pop-ups setting Check the **Ignore browser pop-ups blocker** box if your browser blocks pop-ups. BarcodeMan uses pop-ups to open PDF files for printing. If pop-ups are blocked, printing will not work. Make sure you allow pop-ups for the app in your browser settings. ## Language Select your preferred language from the dropdown. Available languages: - English - 繁體中文 (Traditional Chinese) - 简体中文 (Simplified Chinese) - 日本語 (Japanese) - Deutsch (German) - Français (French) - Português (Portuguese) ## Integrations ### Stocky API Key > **Heads up**: Stocky is being sunset by Shopify. New users should use [CSV upload](/help/barcodeman/csv-upload/) instead. See [Stocky Integration](/help/barcodeman/stocky-integration/) for details. If you still use Stocky for inventory management, you can connect it to BarcodeMan. Enter your Stocky API key to enable the integration. How to get your Stocky API key: 1. Go to [Stocky](https://stocky.shopifyapps.com/) 2. Go to **Preference**, then **API access** 3. Click **Generate new API key**, then copy the token ## Good to know - The Settings page is accessible from the left sidebar in your app. - Changing the language updates the entire app interface. - The Stocky integration lets you import products from Stocky purchase orders in the Product Label page. - If you have issues with printing, check the browser pop-ups setting first. --- ### Product Selection Limits - URL: https://gookit.co/help/barcodeman/variant-limit/ - Product: barcodeman - Category: features - Area: product-selection - Last verified: 2026-04-18 - Created: 2026-04-18 - Error codes: TOO_MANY_VARIANTS_300 - Keywords: variant limit, max 300 variants, too many variants, select more than 300, bulk select products, 250 variant product, batch selection **Summary:** BarcodeMan caps product selection at 300 variants per batch. Learn the limit, how to batch large catalogs, and how high-variant products are handled. **Agent playbook (guidance for AI assistants):** If the user sees "Too many variants selected (max 300)": walk them through batching. Select up to 300 → click Add → repeat. The queue itself has no cap. Remind them the limit is on **variants, not products**. A 100-variant product counts as 100. For genuinely large catalogs (thousands of variants), recommend CSV upload instead of manual selection — much less painful. Redirect to csv-upload. Products with >250 variants may feel sluggish to expand — this is expected, not a bug. Use the "Selected X / 300" footer counter as the teaching moment for tracking position. ## What it does When you add products to the printing queue, there are limits on how many variants you can select at once. ## The limits - **Maximum 300 variants per selection**. You cannot select more than 300 variants in one batch. If you try, you will see: "Too many variants selected (max 300)". - **Products with more than 250 variants** are handled differently by the system. You may notice a slight delay when selecting these large products, but the result is the same. ## What to do if you hit the limit 1. Select up to 300 variants and click **Add**. 2. Go back and select the next batch of variants. 3. Repeat until all your products are in the queue. 4. There is no limit on the total number of items in the printing queue — only on how many you can add at one time. ## Good to know - The 300 limit applies to variants, not products. A product with 10 variants counts as 10 towards the limit. - If you select a product with many variants (like 100+), it may take a moment to load all the variant data. - The footer of the product selection dialog shows "Selected X / 300 variants" so you can track your count. --- ### Set Up Cloud Print - URL: https://gookit.co/help/barcodeman/cloud-print-setup/ - Product: barcodeman - Category: getting-started - Area: cloud-print - Last verified: 2026-08-21 - Created: 2026-08-08 - Keywords: cloud print, cloud print setup, install cloud print, desktop client, direct printing, one click print, connect printer **Summary:** Install the Cloud Print client, link it to your store with a pairing code, and print labels straight from the app to your printer. **Agent playbook (guidance for AI assistants):** This is the install-and-connect guide for Cloud Print. Before troubleshooting, establish three things: 1. Is the store on the Cloud Print plan? Without it the client installs but never receives jobs. 2. Is the client installed on the computer the printer is physically attached to — not on the merchant's laptop? 3. Is that computer awake and online right now? A sleeping computer is the single most common cause of "nothing prints". If the merchant cannot sign in to the client, send them to cloud-print-pairing-code — they have no password, only a pairing code, and it expires after 15 minutes. import Callout from '../../../components/Callout.astro'; import CloudPrintDownload from '../../../components/CloudPrintDownload.astro'; Cloud Print sends a label from BarcodeMan straight to your printer — no PDF download, no browser print dialog. To do that, one small application has to run on the computer your printer is attached to. This guide installs it and links it to your store. Cloud Print is available in the BarcodeMan app for Wix. ## Before you start - **A Cloud Print plan.** Cloud Print is a paid tier of the BarcodeMan app for Wix. The client installs without it, but it will never receive a job. - **The right computer.** Install on the machine your label printer is attached to — the counter PC, the Mac behind the till — not on the laptop you happen to be reading this on. - **A printer that already works.** If that computer can print an operating system test page to it, Cloud Print can reach it. ## Step 1 — Install the client Download the installer on the computer your printer is attached to. **Windows.** Run the downloaded `.exe` and follow the installer. If Windows asks whether to allow the app to make changes to your device, choose **Yes**. **macOS.** Open the downloaded `.dmg` and drag the app into your Applications folder. The first time you open it, macOS may ask you to confirm — open **Applications**, right-click the app, and choose **Open**. Pick the right macOS build. Apple silicon Macs (M1 and later) use the branded BarcodeMan download. Older Intel Macs use the labelled PrintNode fallback, which accepts the same BarcodeMan pairing code. If you are not sure, click the Apple menu → **About This Mac** and look at the chip. ## Step 2 — Link it to your store The client asks you to sign in. You do not have a separate password for it — you link it with a **pairing code** generated inside BarcodeMan. 1. In BarcodeMan, open **Cloud Print settings** and choose **Connect a printer**. A pairing code appears. 2. In the client, enter your store's email address in the email field. 3. Paste the pairing code into the password field and sign in. The code is valid for **15 minutes**. If it expires before you finish, generate a new one — there is no limit on how many you can create. Treat a pairing code like a password: anyone holding it can connect a computer to your store until it expires. Never post one in a public forum or a support ticket. ## Step 3 — Choose your printer Once the client is linked, it reports the printers on that computer back to BarcodeMan. 1. Return to **Cloud Print settings** in BarcodeMan. Your printers now appear in the list. 2. Pick the one you print labels on and save it as the default. 3. Print a test label to confirm the whole path works end to end. If the printer you expect is missing, print an operating system test page to it first. Cloud Print can only see printers the computer itself can see. ## Keep it printing - **The computer must be awake and online.** Cloud Print jobs are delivered to the client, so a sleeping or shut-down computer means nothing prints. On a machine dedicated to printing, turn sleep off. - **Leave the client running.** It installs to start automatically with the computer. If you quit it, printing stops until you open it again. - **One computer, many printers.** A single installation covers every printer attached to that computer. Install the client again only when you add a second computer with its own printers. ## What leaves your store Cloud Print is the one BarcodeMan feature where something travels out of your store, through a delivery service, and back to a computer in your shop. Here is exactly what that is. **What goes out:** - **The label file you are printing** — so the PDF that reaches your printer contains whatever your template shows. That may include product titles, SKUs, prices, and barcodes or, for address and order labels, customer names, addresses, order numbers, and other order details you choose to render. - **The names of the printers on that computer** — so you can pick one in BarcodeMan. - **A store identifier.** The printing account we create for you is labelled with an internal store ID and a placeholder address that receives no mail. Your name, your email, and your store's login are not part of it. **What does not:** your Shopify or Wix credentials, customer and order records as separate structured data, or unrelated files and application data on that computer. Customer or order information is sent only when your template renders it into the label file. The client prints what BarcodeMan sends it and reads only the printer information needed for Cloud Print. Delivery is handled by our sub-processor PrintNode Ltd, listed in the [privacy policy](/privacy/). Turn Cloud Print off and nothing is sent at all. ## Troubleshooting **"Invalid or expired pairing code" when signing in.** The code lasts 15 minutes. Generate a fresh one in Cloud Print settings and paste it again. See [Cloud Print sign-in and pairing codes](/help/barcodeman/cloud-print-pairing-code/). **The client is signed in but BarcodeMan shows no printers.** The client reports printers from the computer it runs on. Confirm that computer can print a test page, then reopen the client. **Nothing comes out, but the job looks sent.** Check the computer is awake, the client is running, and the printer is online and loaded. A job sent while the computer is asleep waits until the client is back. **You replaced the computer.** Install the client on the new machine and link it with a fresh pairing code, then set the new printer as your default in Cloud Print settings. ## Removing the client Uninstall it like any other application — **Add or remove programs** on Windows, or drag it from **Applications** to the Trash on macOS. You can also disconnect a computer from **Cloud Print settings** inside BarcodeMan, which stops jobs reaching it immediately. --- ### Create Your First Template - URL: https://gookit.co/help/barcodeman/create-your-first-template/ - Product: barcodeman - Category: getting-started - Last verified: 2026-04-18 - Created: 2026-03-19 **Summary:** A template controls how your labels look — the size, layout, and what data to show. You need at least one template before you can print. ## Step by Step 1. Go to **Templates** from the left sidebar in your app. 1. Click **Create product label template** (or **Create address label template** for shipping labels). 1. Give your template a name by clicking the pencil icon at the top. ### Set up your paper 1. Click **Configure** (top right) to open the paper settings. 1. **Step 1 — Label & Paper**: Choose your paper brand and model. 1. **Brand**: Avery, Brother, Dymo, Zebra, or Custom 1. **Model**: Roll label, Multi-column label, or Sheet label 1. For sheet labels, set the number of rows, columns, and sheet size (A4, A5, Letter, or Custom) 1. **Step 2 — Label Size**: Set the label width, height, and margins. You can switch between **Inch** and **Millimeter**. 1. If you picked a brand template (like Avery), the size is set automatically 1. Check **"I want set manually"** only if you need custom dimensions 1. Click **Save** to apply. ### Add elements to your label 1. Use the **left sidebar** to add elements: 1. **Text** — product name, price, SKU, or any custom text 1. **Barcode** — product barcode in various formats 1. **QR Code** — link to product URL or custom data 1. **Image** — product image or a static logo 1. Click an element to select it, then **drag** to move or **resize** it on the canvas. 1. For each element, set the **"Link to"** field to connect it to your store data (e.g., PRODUCT_NAME, PRICE, BARCODE). ### Preview and save 1. Click **Preview** to see how your label will look with real data. 1. Click **Save** (purple button, top right) when you're happy. ## Tips - **Roll labels** (like Brother or Dymo) are the simplest — one label per row, just set the width and height. - **Sheet labels** (like Avery) need rows, columns, and sheet size. The margins control the spacing between labels. - **Multi-column labels** are side-by-side labels on a roll. Set the number of columns in the paper config. - You can always come back and edit your template later from the Templates page. --- ### Getting Started - URL: https://gookit.co/help/barcodeman/getting-started/ - Product: barcodeman - Category: getting-started - Area: onboarding - Last verified: 2026-04-20 - Created: 2026-04-18 - Keywords: getting started, setup, first time, onboarding, quick start, how to use barcodeman, data binding, pdf printing **Summary:** BarcodeMan is a simple tool for creating custom label templates, linking them to your store data, and exporting as PDFs for printing. Three steps to get going — create a template, print labels, and set up your printer. **Agent playbook (guidance for AI assistants):** For new users, anchor on the three-step flow: (1) create a template, (2) print labels, (3) set up the printer. Link to the dedicated article for each step rather than repeating full instructions here. The core concept to reinforce: every element on a label can be linked to store data (product name, price, barcode, SKU). Design once, data fills in automatically at print time. Common pre-flight issues: pop-up blockers stopping the PDF from opening, printers under 300 dpi producing unscannable barcodes. If a user reports "nothing happens when I print" or "barcode won't scan", check these first. > **BarcodeMan** is a simple tool for creating custom label templates, linking them to your store data, and exporting as PDFs for printing. ## The Concept Every element in the label editor can be **linked to your store data** — like product name, price, barcode, or SKU. You design the template once, and BarcodeMan fills in the data automatically when you print. ## Quick Start (3 Steps) #### Step 1: Create a template Design your label layout — set the paper size, add text, barcodes, and images, then link them to your product data. → [Create Your First Template](/help/barcodeman/create-your-first-template/) Or jump to a specific label type: [Label Templates](/help/barcodeman/label-templates/) (Roll / Multi-column / Sheet) #### Step 2: Print your labels Pick products or orders, choose your template, and generate labels as PDF. → [Print Your First Labels](/help/barcodeman/print-your-first-labels/) #### Step 3: Set up your printer Configure your printer settings to make sure the PDF prints correctly on your label paper. → [Printer Setup](/help/barcodeman/printer-setup/) (Roll / Multi-column / Sheet guides) ## Before You Print - BarcodeMan outputs **PDF files**. You print them using your browser's print dialog or download to print later. - We recommend a printer with at least **300 dpi** resolution for clear barcode scanning. - **Pop-up blockers** may prevent the PDF from opening. Check your browser settings if the PDF doesn't appear. ## What's Next? Once you're comfortable with the basics, explore all the features BarcodeMan offers — data binding, international prices, metafields, barcode formats, and more. --- ### Print Your First Labels - URL: https://gookit.co/help/barcodeman/print-your-first-labels/ - Product: barcodeman - Category: getting-started - Last verified: 2026-04-18 - Created: 2026-03-19 **Summary:** Once you have a template, you're ready to print. Click **Select** to add products. Choose your source: 1. **From products** — pick from your store catalog 1. **From orders** — pick line items from orders 1. **From draft orders** — pick from draft orders 1. **From transfers** — pick from inventory transfers 1. **Upload CSV** — import products from a CSV file 1. In the selection dialog, use **search** and **filter by collection** to find the right products. 1. Select your products (up to **300 variants** at a time), then click **Add**. ### Choose a template and print 1. Select a template from the **"Select a template"** dropdown at the top. 1. Optionally adjust the **quantity** for each item — click **Set quantity** if you need multiple copies. 1. Click **Generate [N] labels**. 1. A modal appears with options: 1. **Skip Labels** — skip the first N positions on a sheet (useful for partially used label sheets) 1. **Clear After Print** — automatically empty your queue after generating 1. **Download** or **Print** — choose to save the PDF or open the print dialog directly 1. Click to confirm. Your PDF will be ready in a few seconds. ## Address Labels For shipping labels, the flow is the same: 1. Go to **Address labels** from the left sidebar. 1. Click **Select** and choose **From orders**. 1. Pick the orders you want to print labels for. 1. Select an **address label template** and generate. ## Tips - The **Generate labels** button shows the total count (items × quantity). It's disabled until you add products and select a template. - If the PDF doesn't appear, your browser may be **blocking pop-ups**. Go to **Settings** in BarcodeMan and turn on "Ignore browser pop-ups blocker". - **Skip Labels** is only useful for sheet labels — it skips positions so you can reuse a partially printed sheet. - If PDF generation takes too long, try printing fewer labels at a time or simplifying your template. --- ### Printer Setup - URL: https://gookit.co/help/barcodeman/printer-setup/ - Product: barcodeman - Category: getting-started - Area: printing - Last verified: 2026-04-20 - Created: 2026-04-05 - Keywords: printer setup, printer dialog, print settings, roll label printer, multi-column printer, sheet label printer, configure printer **Summary:** Configure your printer dialog to match your label type. This guide explains how barcode values in BarcodeMan relate to your Shopify products, and how to keep them in sync. --- ## How BarcodeMan Reads Product Data BarcodeMan pulls product data directly from your Shopify store, including: - Product name, description, price - **SKU** and **Barcode** values - Metafields, images, and more When you create a label with a barcode element, BarcodeMan uses the value stored in your Shopify product's **Barcode** field to generate the barcode image. --- ## Where Are Barcode Values Stored? Each product variant in Shopify has two relevant fields: | Field | Location in Shopify Admin | Used For | | ----------- | ----------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------- | | **SKU** | Products → [Product] → Variants → SKU | Internal inventory tracking | | **Barcode** | Products → [Product] → Variants → Barcode (UPC, ISBN, etc.) | Scanning at POS, marketplace listings | BarcodeMan can read and write to **both** fields. --- ## How to Assign Barcode Values ### Option 1: Generate new values with BarcodeMan If your products don't have barcodes yet: 1. Go to **Product Labels** → Select your products 1. Click **Assign...** → Field: **barcode** 1. Choose **13-digit number** (recommended) or **8-digit number** 1. Click **Update** BarcodeMan writes the values directly to your Shopify product's Barcode field. These values are for **internal use only** (not real GTINs). ### Option 2: Sync SKU to Barcode If you already have SKU values and want to use them as barcodes: 1. Click **Assign...** → Field: **barcode** 1. Choose **Sync with SKU** 1. Click **Update** This copies each variant's SKU value into the Barcode field. ### Option 3: Enter barcodes manually in Shopify If you have real UPC/EAN codes: 1. Go to Shopify Admin → **Products** 1. Click on a product 1. Scroll to the variant section 1. Enter the barcode value in the **Barcode** field 1. Save BarcodeMan will automatically read these values when generating labels. ### Option 4: Import via CSV For bulk barcode assignment, you can export your products from Shopify as CSV, add barcode values in a spreadsheet, and re-import. --- ## Important Notes - **BarcodeMan does not overwrite existing values**: If a product already has a barcode value, the Assign feature will skip it. - **Changes sync immediately**: When you assign values through BarcodeMan, they are written to Shopify in real-time. You can verify by checking the product in Shopify Admin. - **Barcode values are per-variant**: If a product has multiple variants (size, color), each variant gets its own barcode value. --- ## Common Questions ### "My barcode shows blank on the label" The product variant has no value in the Barcode field. Use the **Assign** feature to generate one, or add it manually in Shopify Admin. ### "I changed the barcode in Shopify but BarcodeMan still shows the old one" Refresh the product list in BarcodeMan. The app reads data from Shopify each time you select products. ### "Can I delete barcode values?" BarcodeMan cannot delete barcode values. To clear them, go to Shopify Admin → Products → edit the variant and remove the barcode value manually. --- ### Using BarcodeMan with Shopify POS - URL: https://gookit.co/help/barcodeman/using-barcodeman-with-shopify-pos/ - Product: barcodeman - Category: integrations - Last verified: 2026-04-18 - Created: 2026-03-21 **Summary:** Set up BarcodeMan labels for Shopify POS, assign variant barcodes, choose a barcode format, print labels, and troubleshoot scanning. BarcodeMan works great with Shopify POS (Point of Sale) for scanning products at your physical retail store. This guide explains how to set it up. --- ## How It Works 1. You create barcode labels in BarcodeMan 1. You stick the labels on your products 1. At checkout, you scan the barcode with your POS scanner 1. Shopify POS finds the product and adds it to the cart --- ## Setup Steps ### Step 1: Assign barcodes to your products Shopify POS reads the **Barcode** field on each product variant (not the SKU field). 1. Open BarcodeMan → **Product Labels** 1. Click **Select** and add all your products 1. Click **Assign...** → Field: **barcode** → Option: **13-digit number** 1. Click **Update** This writes a unique barcode number to each product variant in Shopify. > **Important**: If your products already have barcodes (UPC, EAN), skip this step — BarcodeMan will use the existing values. ### Step 2: Create a label template with a barcode 1. Go to **Templates** → Create a new template 1. Set the size to match your label paper 1. Add a **Barcode** element and set "Link to" as **BARCODE_TEXT** 1. Add other elements you need (product name, price, etc.) 1. Set the barcode format to **CODE128** (or EAN-13/UPC-A if you have real GTINs) ### Step 3: Print your labels 1. Go to **Product Labels** 1. Select your products 1. Choose your template 1. Click **Generate Labels** 1. Print and stick the labels on your products ### Step 4: Test with Shopify POS 1. Open the Shopify POS app on your device 1. Scan one of your printed barcodes 1. The product should appear in the cart --- ## Troubleshooting ### Barcode scans but product not found in POS **Possible causes:** 1. **Barcode value not in the Barcode field**: Shopify POS only reads the Barcode field, not SKU. Go to Shopify Admin → Products and check that the barcode value is in the correct field. 1. **Product not synced to POS**: Make sure the product is published to the POS sales channel. Go to Shopify Admin → Products → select the product → check that "Point of Sale" is enabled under **Sales channels**. 1. **POS app not updated**: Close and reopen the Shopify POS app to force a data sync. Make sure the device has a stable internet connection. ### Scanner not reading the barcode 1. **Barcode too small**: Make the barcode element wider in your template. CODE128 with long values needs more space. 1. **Barcode is blurry**: Make sure your printer has 300+ dpi. See our [Low-Quality Printing Results](/help/barcodeman/low-quality-printing-results/) guide. 1. **Wrong barcode format**: If you're using a basic laser scanner, CODE128 and EAN-13 work best. --- ## Recommended Scanner Types Any USB or Bluetooth barcode scanner that supports CODE128 will work. Popular options: - USB wired scanners (plug and play, most reliable) - Bluetooth scanners (wireless, works with iPad POS setups) > **Tip**: Before buying a scanner, test with your phone camera using a free barcode reader app to verify your labels scan correctly. --- ### Label Templates - URL: https://gookit.co/help/barcodeman/label-templates/ - Product: barcodeman - Category: label-designer - Last verified: 2026-04-18 - Created: 2026-04-05 **Summary:** Step-by-step guides for creating each type of label template in BarcodeMan. Full reference of every Link To option for product and address labels. **Agent playbook (guidance for AI assistants):** MOST common failure: "my labels are blank / show the same text every label". Root cause — the element is Custom Text instead of linked to live data. Walk the user to select the element and change the Link To dropdown. Product label vs Address label have **different** Link To options. Confirm the user is editing the correct template type before debugging missing fields. For metafields: the metafield must already be defined in your store admin. If the dropdown is empty, they need to create the metafield definition in Shopify first. Image-from-metafield requires the metafield value to be an **image URL** (not a file reference). A common trap. Price formatting: offer Regular (1,234.56), No Separator (1234.56), or European (1.234,56). If a merchant is in Europe and sees commas where they want dots, flip to European. Scan to Cart QR is powerful — flag it for in-store/retail use cases. ## What it does "Link To" connects an element on your label to real data from your store. For example, you can link a text box to the product name, so each label shows the correct name for that product. Without "Link To", the element shows only static text. ## How to use it 1. In the template editor, add an element (Text, Barcode, QR Code, or Image). 2. Select the element on the canvas. 3. In the properties panel, find the **Link To** dropdown. 4. Choose a data field. The element will now show live data when you print. ## Available data fields The data fields you can use depend on two things: - **Label type** — Product label or Address label - **Element type** — Text, Barcode, QR Code, or Image ### Product label — Text fields | Field | What it shows | |-------|--------------| | Product Name | The product title | | Product Description | The product description (you can set start and end position to show part of it) | | Product Weight | The product weight | | Product Tags | Tags on the product (you can filter which tags to show) | | Variant | The variant option value, like "Red / Large" (you can filter which options to show, and choose to show or hide the option name) | | Custom Text | Text you type yourself — it stays the same on every label | | Price | The product price (you can set currency format and decimal places) | | Compared At Price | The original price before discount (you can choose what to show if there is no compared price) | | Presentment Price | The price in a specific market currency (you select which market) | | Presentment Compared At Price | The compared price in a specific market currency | | Unit Price | The price per unit | | SKU | The product SKU code | | Barcode Text | The product barcode number as text | | Vendor | The product vendor name | | Product Type | The product type | | Product Metafield | A custom metafield on the product (you select which one) | | Variant Metafield | A custom metafield on the variant (you select which one) | | Label Quantity | The number of labels being printed for this item | | Current Date | Today's date (you can add a day offset, for example +7 for one week later) | | Current Date Unix | Today's date as a Unix timestamp (with optional day offset) | | Product ID | The product ID | | Variant ID | The variant ID | | Inventory Quantity | The current stock level | ### Product label — Barcode fields | Field | What it shows | |-------|--------------| | Barcode | The product barcode | | SKU | The SKU as a barcode | | Custom Barcode | A barcode with text you type yourself | | Product Metafield | A metafield value as a barcode | | Variant Metafield | A variant metafield value as a barcode | | Product ID | The product ID as a barcode | | Variant ID | The variant ID as a barcode | Supported barcode formats: CODE128, EAN13, UPC-A, UPC-E, CODE39, ISBN, EAN8, GS1-128. ### Product label — QR Code fields | Field | What it shows | |-------|--------------| | Barcode | The product barcode as a QR code | | Custom QR Code | A QR code with text or URL you type yourself | | SKU | The SKU as a QR code | | Online Store Product URL | A link to the product page on your store (you can add a URL suffix) | | Product Metafield | A metafield value as a QR code | | Variant Metafield | A variant metafield value as a QR code | | Scan to Cart | A special link that adds the product to the cart when scanned | | Product Admin URL | A link to the product in your store admin | | Product ID | The product ID as a QR code | | Variant ID | The variant ID as a QR code | ### Product label — Image fields | Field | What it shows | |-------|--------------| | Custom Image | An image you upload yourself | | Product Image | The main product image from your store | | Variant Image | The image for the specific variant | | Product Metafield | A metafield value as an image (the metafield must contain an image URL) | | Variant Metafield | A variant metafield value as an image | ### Address label — Text fields | Field | What it shows | |-------|--------------| | Order Number | The order number | | Full Address | The complete shipping address | | Address Line 1 | The first line of the address | | Address Line 2 | The second line (apartment, suite, etc.) | | Country | The country | | Zip Code | The postal or zip code | | City | The city | | Province | The state or province | | City + Province | City and province together | | Company | The company name | | Shipping Full Name | The full name on the shipping address | | Shipping First Name | The first name | | Shipping Last Name | The last name | | Shipping Phone | The phone number on the shipping address | | Customer Phone | The customer's phone number | | Customer First Name | The customer's first name | | Customer Last Name | The customer's last name | | Custom Text | Text you type yourself | ### Address label — Barcode / QR Code / Image Address labels have fewer options: - **Barcode**: Custom Barcode, Order Number - **QR Code**: Custom QR Code - **Image**: Custom Image ## Using metafields Metafields let you show custom data that you added to your products or variants in your store. 1. In the Link To dropdown, select **Product Metafield** or **Variant Metafield**. 2. A second dropdown appears showing your metafield definitions. 3. Select the metafield you want (shown as `namespace.key`, for example `custom.color`). 4. The element will now show the metafield value for each product. This works for Text, Barcode, QR Code, and Image elements. For images, the metafield must contain an image URL. ## Text formatting options When you link a text element, you can also set: - **Case** — Lowercase, UPPERCASE, Capitalized, or Sentence case - **Prefix** — Text to add before the data (for example "$" before price) - **Suffix** — Text to add after the data (for example " kg" after weight) ## Good to know - If you change the Link To field, the element type may change. For example, switching from Custom Text to Product Name changes how the element gets its data. - Price fields let you choose the currency format: Regular (1,234.56), No Separator (1234.56), or European (1.234,56). You can also set how many decimal places to show (0 to 5). - The Variant field shows all option values by default. You can hide specific options by **option name** — type `Color` (the option), not `Red` (the value). See [Display product variants with filter options](/help/barcodeman/display-product-variants-with-filter-options/). - Current Date supports a day offset. Set it to 7 to show a date one week from today. This is useful for expiration dates. - Scan to Cart QR codes create a special URL that adds the product to the customer's cart when scanned. --- ### Multi-column Label Template - URL: https://gookit.co/help/barcodeman/multi-column-label-template/ - Product: barcodeman - Category: label-designer - Area: templates - Last verified: 2026-04-20 - Created: 2026-04-05 - Keywords: multi-column label, multi column template, 2-up label, side by side label, roll label multi column, dymo 30299 **Summary:** Multi-column labels print several labels side-by-side on a single row using a roll printer. Learn the layout variations, how to configure a template, and the paper-width pitfall to avoid. **Agent playbook (guidance for AI assistants):** Two things to reinforce with users: 1. Paper width in the print dialog must match the TOTAL roll width, not the single-label width. This is the #1 cause of "only one column prints" or offset output. 2. Layout (row vs column oriented, 2-row-1-col vs 1-row-2-col) is purely a design choice — BarcodeMan handles them all the same way. The only hard constraint is that columns × single-label width = total roll width. A multi-column label (also called **2-up labels** or **side-by-side labels**) is a label design that fits several labels into one physical row of your roll, instead of one label per row. ![Diagram of a multi-column label strip showing multiple labels printed side-by-side on a single roll](/help-images/barcodeman/multi-column-concept.png) Common use case: small stickers (like jewelry tags or mini price labels) where you want to maximize roll usage. ## Layout variations Multi-column templates can be designed in a few ways depending on how you arrange content within each label: **Row oriented** — content flows left to right within each label. ![Row-oriented multi-column label layout where each label's content reads horizontally](/help-images/barcodeman/multi-column-row-oriented.png) **Column oriented** — content stacks vertically within each label. ![Column-oriented multi-column label layout where each label's content stacks vertically](/help-images/barcodeman/multi-column-column-oriented.png) **Two-row, one-column** — a single narrower label with two stacked content rows. ![Two-row, one-column layout showing two stacked content areas within a single label](/help-images/barcodeman/multi-column-two-row-one-column.png) **One-row, two-column** — a wider label with two content columns side-by-side (not to be confused with two separate labels). ![One-row, two-column layout showing two content areas side-by-side within a single label](/help-images/barcodeman/multi-column-one-row-two-column.png) ## Create a Multi-column Label Template Example: **2-column layout**, each label **25mm × 15mm**, with product name and barcode. Dymo 30299 (54mm × 11mm) is another common reference. 1. Go to **Templates** → click **Create product label template**. 1. Click **Configure** (top right): 1. **Brand**: Your printer brand or Custom 1. **Model**: Multi-column label 1. **Columns**: 2 1. **Width**: 25 mm, **Height**: 15 mm (per label) 1. Click **Save**. 1. Add elements from the left sidebar: 1. **Text** → Link To → **Product Name** 1. **Barcode** → Link To → **Barcode**, format: **CODE128** 1. Click **Preview** to check, then **Save**. > [!WARNING] > The **total paper width** must match your actual roll. For example, 2 columns × 25mm = 50mm roll width. Make sure the paper size in your printer dialog matches the total roll width, not the individual label width. ## What's Next → [Printer Setup for Multi-column Label](/help/barcodeman/printer-setup-for-multi-column-label/) --- ### Price Display Settings - URL: https://gookit.co/help/barcodeman/price-display-settings/ - Product: barcodeman - Category: label-designer - Last verified: 2026-04-18 - Created: 2026-03-21 **Summary:** Fix price formatting, currency symbols, compare-at prices, and presentment prices on BarcodeMan product labels. Having trouble with how prices appear on your labels? This guide covers common price display issues and how to fix them. --- ## Understanding Price Fields BarcodeMan offers several price-related fields you can use on labels: | Field | What It Shows | When to Use | | --------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------- | | **PRICE** | Product price in your store's default currency | Single-currency stores | | **COMPARED_AT_PRICE** | Original price before discount (strike-through price) | Sale/discount labels | | **PRESENTMENT_PRICE** | Price with currency code for a specific market | Multi-currency / international stores | | **PRESENTMENT_COMPARED_AT_PRICE** | Original price with currency code for a specific market | Multi-currency sale labels | --- ## Common Issues ### Price shows extra zeros (e.g., "29.9000" instead of "29.90") **Cause**: The price field is displaying raw data without formatting. **Fix**: Use **PRICE** instead of **PRESENTMENT_PRICE** if you only need one currency. PRICE is automatically formatted to 2 decimal places. ### Price shows wrong currency symbol **Cause**: You are using PRICE (which uses your store's default currency) but you need prices for a different market. **Fix**: Use **PRESENTMENT_PRICE** instead. In the template editor, you can select which market's price to display. This pulls prices from your Shopify Markets settings. ### Compare-at price is blank **Cause**: The product doesn't have a compare-at price set in your store. **Fix**: Go to Shopify Admin → Products → edit the product → set the "Compare-at price" field. Only products with this field filled will show a value. ### Price shows "$0.00" **Cause**: The product variant has no price, or the wrong price field is linked. **Fix**: 1. Check the product has a price in your store admin 1. In the template editor, click the price element and verify "Link to" is set to **PRICE** (not a metafield or other field) --- ## Multi-Currency Setup If your store supports multiple currencies through Shopify Markets: 1. In the template editor, add a text element 1. Set "Link to" to **PRESENTMENT_PRICE** 1. A market selector will appear — choose the target market 1. The label will show prices in that market's currency > **Note**: If your store does **not** support multiple currencies, use **PRICE** instead of **PRESENTMENT_PRICE**. For more details on setting up Shopify Markets, refer to [Shopify Help Center](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/markets) . --- ### Product Description: Crop Text - URL: https://gookit.co/help/barcodeman/product-description-crop-text/ - Product: barcodeman - Category: label-designer - Last verified: 2026-04-18 - Created: 2026-04-05 **Summary:** Product descriptions can be long. In the template editor, select a **Text** element. 1. Set **Link To** → **Product Description**. 1. In the properties panel, set: 1. **Start position**: Which character to start from (0 = beginning) 1. **End position**: Which character to stop at ## Example Description: "Handmade organic cotton t-shirt, available in multiple colors" - Start: 0, End: 30 → "Handmade organic cotton t-shir" - Start: 0, End: 50 → "Handmade organic cotton t-shirt, available in mult" ## Tips - Product descriptions may contain HTML tags. BarcodeMan strips HTML and shows plain text. - If your description is too long for the label, reduce font size or use crop to fit the available space. --- ### Roll Label Template - URL: https://gookit.co/help/barcodeman/roll-label-template/ - Product: barcodeman - Category: label-designer - Last verified: 2026-04-18 - Created: 2026-04-05 **Summary:** Roll labels are printed on a continuous roll using thermal printers (DYMO, Zebra, Brother, Rollo). Included on BarcodeMan Free and Pro plans. **Agent playbook (guidance for AI assistants):** The generator **never overwrites** existing values — if the user says "I generated but nothing changed for product X", confirm product X already had a value (that's why it was skipped). To overwrite an existing value, the user must edit it manually in your store admin — the generator won't do it. Common use case: store has barcodes from supplier but no SKUs (or vice versa). Recommend "Sync barcode → SKU" or "Sync SKU → barcode" over generating fresh numbers. If the user wants specifically EAN-13-compatible values, generated 13-digit numbers are sequential — they are unique but do NOT contain a valid EAN-13 check digit. Flag this if they plan to sell in retail. Feature is on both Free and Pro plans — no upsell gate. ## What it does The SKU Generator helps you create SKU or barcode values for products that don't have them. Many products in your store are missing SKU or barcode data. Without these values, your labels may show blank fields. ## How to use it 1. Go to **Product label** from the left sidebar. 2. Add products to your printing queue. 3. If some products are missing SKU or barcode values, you will see a prompt or can click the SKU generator option. 4. Choose one of the following options: - **Generate 13-digit number** — Creates a unique 13-digit sequential number for each variant - **Generate 8-digit number** — Creates a unique 8-digit sequential number for each variant - **Sync barcode → SKU** — Copies the existing barcode value to the SKU field - **Sync SKU → barcode** — Copies the existing SKU value to the barcode field ## Good to know - The generator does **not overwrite** existing values. If a variant already has a SKU or barcode, it will be skipped. - Generated values are saved back to your store. - Both Free and Pro plans include the SKU generator. - The sync options are useful when you have data in one field but not the other. For example, if all your products have barcodes but no SKUs, use "Sync barcode → SKU". - If you need to change a value that was already set, you must update it manually in your store admin. --- ### Template Editor - URL: https://gookit.co/help/barcodeman/template-editor/ - Product: barcodeman - Category: label-designer - Area: label-designer - Last verified: 2026-04-18 - Created: 2026-04-18 - Keywords: template editor, label designer, design label, label layout, label size, paper brand, avery brother dymo zebra, edit template, create template **Summary:** Design label layouts with the visual editor — add text, barcodes, QR codes, and images, then configure paper brand, label size, and margins. **Agent playbook (guidance for AI assistants):** For "elements show static text only" confusion: the element needs a **Link To** binding. Redirect to link-to-data-binding. Label dimensions set themselves automatically when a paper brand (Avery / Brother / Dymo / Zebra) and model are selected — users should only enable "I want set manually" when they truly have a custom label. Mismatched physical vs template dimensions is the #1 cause of misaligned prints — always verify Configure step 2 matches the actual label sheet in hand. Unit confusion: 1 inch = 25.4 mm. If a label looks correct in preview but wrong on paper, check the unit toggle. Saving is manual — the Save button is top-right (purple). Changes are lost if the user navigates away without saving. ## What it does The template editor lets you design how your labels look. You can add text, barcodes, QR codes, and images to your label. You can also set the label size, paper type, and margins. ## How to open it 1. Go to **Templates** from the left sidebar. 2. Click on any template name to edit it, or click **Create product label template** / **Create address label template** to make a new one. ## Editor layout - **Left sidebar** — Four element tools: Text, Barcode, QR Code, and Image. Click one to add it to your label. - **Center canvas** — This is where you see your label preview. You can click on elements to select them, then drag to move or resize. - **Top toolbar** — When you select an element, the toolbar shows formatting options like text color, alignment, layer order, delete, duplicate, undo, redo, and zoom controls. - **Top right buttons** — Preview (see how your label will look when printed), Configure (set label size and paper), and Save. ## How to add elements 1. Click **Text** to add a text box. You can type static text or link it to product data like product name, price, or SKU. 2. Click **Barcode** to add a barcode. It can show product barcode data. 3. Click **QR Code** to add a QR code. 4. Click **Image** to add an image to your label. ## How to configure label size and paper 1. Click the **Configure** button at the top right. 2. **Step 1 — Label & Paper**: Choose your paper brand (Avery, Brother, Dymo, Zebra, or Custom) and paper model (Roll label, Multi-column label, or Sheet label). For sheet labels, set the number of rows and columns, and the sheet size (A4, A5, Letter, or Custom). 3. Click **Next** to go to Step 2. 4. **Step 2 — Label Size**: Set the label width and height, and the margins (left, top, right, bottom). You can choose between Inch and Millimeter. Check "I want set manually" to enter your own values. 5. Click **Save** to apply your changes. ## How to preview 1. You can drag elements to position them on the label. - Supported paper brands include Avery, Brother, Dymo, Zebra, and custom brands. - Label models include Roll label, Multi-column label, and Sheet label. - Sheet labels support A4, A5, Letter, and Custom sheet sizes. - You can set label dimensions in Inch or Millimeter. 1 inch = 25.4 mm. - If you use a paper brand template (like Avery), the label size is set automatically. Use "I want set manually" only if you need custom dimensions. - The template name can be edited by clicking the pencil icon next to it. --- ### Template List - URL: https://gookit.co/help/barcodeman/template-list/ - Product: barcodeman - Category: label-designer - Area: label-designer - Last verified: 2026-04-18 - Created: 2026-04-18 - Keywords: template list, templates page, all templates, duplicate template, find template, product vs address template, template manager **Summary:** The Templates page lists every label template in your store. Search, sort, duplicate, or create product and address label templates from here. **Agent playbook (guidance for AI assistants):** If a user says "my template is missing" from the dropdown on the Product label or Address label page, check template type — product label pages only list product label templates (and vice versa). The Template List page shows both, with the usage type column as the tell. Duplicating is the fastest way to iterate on a working design without breaking the original. Suggest duplicate instead of edit when a user wants to experiment. ## What it does The Templates page shows all your label templates. A template controls the layout and content of your labels. You need at least one template before you can print labels. ## How to use it 1. Go to **Templates** from the left sidebar in your app, or click the back arrow in the template editor. 2. You will see a table with all your templates. Each row shows the template name, description, usage type (Product label or Address label), notes, and the last updated date. 3. Use the **Search template** box to find a template by name. 4. Use the **Sort by** button to change the order of templates. 5. Click a template name to open it in the template editor. ## How to create a template 1. On the Templates page, click **Create product label template** or **Create address label template**. 2. This opens the template editor where you can design your label. ## How to duplicate a template 1. Find the template you want to copy in the list. 2. Click the **Duplicate** icon on the right side of that row. ## How to delete a template 1. Find the template you want to remove. 2. Click the **Delete** icon on the right side of that row. 3. You can also select multiple templates using the checkboxes and delete them together. ## Good to know - There are two types of templates: **Product label** and **Address label**. Product label templates use product data (name, price, barcode). Address label templates use order and customer data. - You can have as many templates as you want. - Templates are sorted by last updated date by default. - Each template shows its usage type so you can quickly tell if it is for products or addresses. --- ### Using Metafields on Labels - URL: https://gookit.co/help/barcodeman/using-metafields-on-labels/ - Product: barcodeman - Category: label-designer - Last verified: 2026-04-18 - Created: 2026-03-21 **Summary:** Add Shopify product and variant metafields to BarcodeMan labels, including custom text, images, namespaces, and keys. Metafields let you display custom product data on your labels — such as material, country of origin, care instructions, or any other custom field you've set up in your store. --- ## What Are Metafields? Metafields are extra data fields you can add to products and variants in your store. They are organized by **namespace** and **key** (e.g., `custom.material`). BarcodeMan supports two types: - **Product metafields** (METAFIELD_PRODUCT) — same value for all variants of a product - **Variant metafields** (METAFIELD_VARIANT) — different value per variant --- ## How to Add a Metafield to Your Label 1. Open your template in the **Template Editor** 1. Add a new **Text** element 1. In the properties panel, set "Link to" to **METAFIELD_PRODUCT** or **METAFIELD_VARIANT** 1. A dropdown will appear showing your available metafields 1. Select the metafield you want to display 1. Position and style the element as needed > **Note**: The app may take a moment to load your metafield list. Wait for the "Fetching metafields..." loading to complete. --- ## Displaying Images from Metafields If you have a metafield that stores an image URL (e.g., a certification logo): 1. Add an **Image** element to your template 1. Set "Link to" to **METAFIELD_PRODUCT** or **METAFIELD_VARIANT** 1. Select the metafield that contains the image URL 1. The image will be pulled from the URL and displayed on the label --- ## Troubleshooting ### Metafield shows blank on the label **Possible causes:** 1. The metafield has no value set on that specific product — check in your store admin → Products → [Product] → Metafields 1. You selected a **product** metafield but the data is on the **variant** level (or vice versa) 1. The metafield namespace/key was changed or deleted in your store ### Metafield list won't load 1. Refresh the page and try again 1. Make sure you have at least one product with metafield values defined 1. Check your internet connection ### Wrong metafield value showing Make sure you selected the correct metafield (check the namespace and key). Product metafields and variant metafields are listed separately. --- ## Tips - Create your metafield definitions in your store admin → Settings → Custom data **before** trying to use them in BarcodeMan - Use descriptive metafield names so they're easy to find in the dropdown - Test with one product first to make sure the correct data appears --- ### Print the Entire Page in A4 or Letter Size - URL: https://gookit.co/help/barcodeman/print-the-entire-page-in-a4-or-letter-size/ - Product: barcodeman - Category: printing - Last verified: 2026-04-18 - Created: 2026-04-05 **Summary:** If you want to print a single large label that fills an entire A4 or Letter page (e.g., a poster, sign, or full-page product sheet), set your template to match… If you want to print a single large label that fills an entire A4 or Letter page (e.g., a poster, sign, or full-page product sheet), set your template to match the page size. ## Steps 1. Your content may be slightly clipped at the borders. If this is a problem, keep important elements away from the page edges. --- ### Printer Setup for Multi-column Label - URL: https://gookit.co/help/barcodeman/printer-setup-for-multi-column-label/ - Product: barcodeman - Category: printing - Area: printing - Last verified: 2026-04-20 - Created: 2026-04-05 - Keywords: multi-column label printer setup, multi column label, total roll width, only one column prints, columns misaligned, side-by-side labels, paper size multi column **Summary:** Multi-column labels have multiple labels side-by-side on one roll. Set the paper size to the total roll width (not the individual label width), Scale 100%, Margins None. **Agent playbook (guidance for AI assistants):** The #1 mistake on multi-column labels is setting paper size to a single label's width. It must be the TOTAL roll width (e.g., 2 columns × 25mm = 50mm wide). Symptom → cause map: - Only one column prints → paper size is set to single label width, not total width. - Columns misaligned → the gap/margin between columns in BarcodeMan doesn't match the actual label sheet. - Labels cut off on one side → Margins not set to None. If the exact total width isn't in the paper size dropdown, redirect to printer-setup-for-roll-label for custom paper size steps. Multi-column labels have multiple labels side-by-side on one roll. In BarcodeMan, select products and click **Generate labels**. 1. Press **Ctrl+P** / **Cmd+P**. 1. Select your printer. 1. Set **Paper size** to the full roll width. If not listed, create a custom paper size (see [Printer Setup for Roll Label](/help/barcodeman/printer-setup-for-roll-label/)). 1. Set **Scale** to 100%, **Margins** to None. 1. Print. ## Common Issues - **Only one column prints** → Paper size is set to single label width instead of total roll width. - **Columns are misaligned** → Check that the gap/margin between columns in BarcodeMan matches your actual label sheet. - **Labels are cut off on one side** → Margins are not set to None. ## Step-by-Step Guides by OS and Browser Each OS/browser combination has a slightly different print dialog. If the exact label size isn't in the paper size dropdown, walk them through creating a custom paper size — Mac: print dialog → Manage Custom Sizes. Windows: Control Panel → Printer Preferences. For thermal printers, blank output usually means wrong media type, or the roll isn't loaded so the sensor can't detect the label gap. If the user knows their OS/browser, send them straight to the matching Scribehow guide — it has the exact click path with screenshots. After creating your roll label template, configure your browser's print dialog to match. ## Print Dialog Settings | Setting | Value | | --------------- | -------------------------------------------- | | **Paper size** | Match your label exactly (e.g., 57mm × 32mm) | | **Scale** | 100% or "Actual size" — never "Fit to page" | | **Margins** | None | | **Orientation** | Match your template (Portrait or Landscape) | ## Steps 1. In BarcodeMan, select products and click **Generate labels**. 1. The PDF opens in your browser. Press **Ctrl+P** (Windows) or **Cmd+P** (Mac). 1. Select your roll label printer. 1. Set **Paper size** to your exact label dimensions. If your size isn't listed, create a custom paper size in your printer driver first. 1. Set **Scale** to 100%, **Margins** to None. 1. Print. ## Custom Paper Size If your label size doesn't appear in the paper size dropdown: - **Mac**: In the print dialog, click the paper size dropdown → **Manage Custom Sizes** → add your label dimensions. - **Windows**: Open **Printer Preferences** from Control Panel → find paper size or form settings → add a custom size. ## Common Issues - **Labels too small or too big** → Scale is not 100%. - **Labels offset** → Paper size in print dialog doesn't match actual paper. - **Blank output** → Printer is set to the wrong media type. For thermal printers, check that the roll is loaded correctly and the sensor detects the label gap. ## Step-by-Step Guides by OS and Browser Each OS/browser combination has a slightly different print dialog. Accuracy depends on matching the paper size and printing at exactly 100% scale — never Fit to page. **Agent playbook (guidance for AI assistants):** Accuracy on sheet labels depends on two things: paper size matching the actual sheet (A4 vs Letter) and Scale at exactly 100%. "Fit to page" is the biggest enemy — it shrinks labels and breaks the pre-cut grid. Symptom → cause map: - Labels don't line up with the pre-cut grid → Scale not 100%, OR paper size mismatch (A4 sheet but Letter selected, or vice versa). - First row aligns, later rows drift → template margins/gaps in BarcodeMan Configure don't match the physical sheet. Have them re-measure. - Labels slightly offset → printer has an unkillable built-in margin. Compensate by adjusting top/left margin in BarcodeMan Configure by 1-2mm. If the user knows their OS/browser, send them straight to the matching Scribehow guide with screenshots. Sheet labels (like Avery) are printed on A4 or Letter paper using a regular inkjet or laser printer. In BarcodeMan, select products and click **Generate labels**. 1. Press **Ctrl+P** / **Cmd+P**. 1. Select your printer. 1. Set **Paper size** to A4 or Letter (match your label sheets). 1. Set **Scale** to **100%**. Do not use "Fit to page" — it will shrink labels and misalign with the pre-cut grid. 1. Set **Margins** to None. 1. Print. ## Common Issues - **Labels don't line up with the pre-cut grid** → Scale is not 100%, or paper size is wrong (e.g., A4 sheet but Letter selected). - **First row is fine but later rows drift** → The template margins or gaps don't match your actual sheet. Re-check the Configure settings in BarcodeMan. - **Labels are slightly offset** → Some printers have a built-in margin they can't eliminate. --- ### How Printing Works - URL: https://gookit.co/help/barcodeman/printing-flow/ - Product: barcodeman - Category: printing - Area: printing-flow - Last verified: 2026-04-18 - Created: 2026-04-18 - Keywords: generate labels, print flow, skip labels, clear after print, pdf timeout, reprint on partial sheet, download pdf, print dialog **Summary:** Understand what happens after you click Generate labels — the options modal, PDF generation, timeouts, and how Skip Labels and Clear After Print work. **Agent playbook (guidance for AI assistants):** If printing "does nothing" — the #1 cause is the browser pop-up blocker. Tell the user to enable "Ignore browser pop-ups blocker" in Settings, OR whitelist the app in their browser. For "PDF timed out" errors, have the user (1) print in smaller batches, (2) remove heavy images or complex elements from the template. **Skip Labels** is often misused — it only makes sense for sheet labels (not roll labels) when reprinting onto a partially used sheet. If the user is on roll labels, it does nothing useful. If they want the queue to auto-clear, it's Clear After Print — flag that label count updates include quantity × items. ## What it does After you add products or orders to your printing queue and select a template, you click "Generate labels" to create your labels. This page explains what happens next and what options you have. ## Step by step 1. Add products (or orders) to your printing queue. 2. Select a template from the dropdown. 3. Click **Generate [N] labels**. 4. A modal appears with printing options: - **Skip Labels** — Enter a number to skip the first N labels. This is useful when you are reprinting on a partially used label sheet. For example, if you already used 3 labels on a sheet, set skip to 3 so printing starts at the 4th position. - **Clear After Print** — Turn this on to automatically empty your printing queue after the labels are generated. - **Download** or **Print** — Choose whether to download the labels as a PDF file, or open them directly in your browser's print dialog. 5. Click to confirm. The app starts generating your labels. 6. You will see a loading indicator while the PDF is being created. This usually takes a few seconds. 7. When done, the PDF opens in a new tab or downloads to your computer. ## First-time printing The first time you print, the app shows a **Printing Tips** popup with helpful hints. This only appears once. ## Good to know - **PDF generation timeout**: If your labels take more than 25 seconds to generate, the process will time out. This can happen with very complex templates or slow network connections. Try simplifying your template or printing fewer labels at a time. - **Pop-up blocker**: The PDF opens in a new browser tab. If your browser blocks pop-ups, you will not see the PDF. Go to **Settings** and turn on "Ignore browser pop-ups blocker", or allow pop-ups for the app in your browser settings. - **Skip Labels** is only useful for sheet labels (not roll labels). It skips positions on the sheet so you can reuse a partially printed sheet. - **Clear After Print** saves you from manually clearing the queue. If you turn it off, your queue stays so you can print again. - The "Generate labels" button shows the total number of labels. This includes the quantity you set for each item. For example, 5 products × 2 copies each = 10 labels. --- ### Barcode Format Guide - URL: https://gookit.co/help/barcodeman/barcode-formats/ - Product: barcodeman - Category: reference - Area: label-designer - Last verified: 2026-04-18 - Created: 2026-04-18 - Keywords: barcode format, code128, ean13, ean-13, upc-a, upc-e, code39, gs1-128, isbn barcode, barcode symbology, which barcode to use **Summary:** Compare the barcode symbologies BarcodeMan supports — CODE128, EAN-13, UPC-A, UPC-E, CODE39, EAN-8, ISBN, GS1-128 — and when to pick each. **Agent playbook (guidance for AI assistants):** Default recommendation is **CODE128** — it accepts any alphanumeric data and is the safest answer when a user is unsure. Only steer them away if they have a specific retail/GTIN need. For EAN-13 / UPC-A / EAN-8 / ISBN: the digit count is strict. EAN-13 = 13 digits, UPC-A = 12, EAN-8 = 8. If the barcode doesn't render, the #1 reason is wrong digit count — have the user count the characters of their source data. North America → UPC-A. Rest of world retail → EAN-13. Books → ISBN. Supply chain/pallets → GS1-128. If a user complains "the barcode won't render", check digit count and symbology match before blaming the app. ## What it does When you add a barcode element to your template, you can choose which barcode format to use. Different formats have different rules and are used in different industries. ## Available formats
Recommended

CODE128 — the default choice

If you're not sure which format to use, pick this one. It's the safest, most flexible barcode format — works for almost any data you throw at it.

  • Encodes any text, numbers, and symbols
  • Variable length — no fixed number of digits
  • Good for: SKUs, internal codes, any custom text
### EAN-13 - Standard retail barcode used worldwide (except North America). - Exactly 13 digits. The last digit is a check digit. - Good for: Products sold in stores outside North America. ### UPC-A - Standard retail barcode used in North America. - Exactly 12 digits. The last digit is a check digit. - Good for: Products sold in US and Canadian stores. ### UPC-E - Compressed version of UPC-A. - 6 digits (expanded to 12 internally). - Good for: Small products where space is limited. ### CODE39 - Older format that encodes letters, numbers, and some symbols. - Variable length. - Good for: Inventory tracking, ID badges, logistics. ### EAN-8 - Short version of EAN-13. - Exactly 8 digits. - Good for: Very small products where EAN-13 does not fit. ### ISBN - Used for books. - 13 digits (same structure as EAN-13). - Good for: Books, publications. ### GS1-128 - Extended version of CODE128 with special application identifiers. - Used in supply chain and logistics. - Good for: Shipping labels, cartons, pallets. ## How to choose 1. In the template editor, add a **Barcode** element. 2. Select the element on the canvas. 3. In the properties panel, find the **Barcode Type** setting. 4. Choose the format you need. ## Good to know - If you are not sure which format to use, **CODE128** is the safest choice. It works with any text or number. - **EAN-13** and **UPC-A** require a specific number of digits. If your barcode data has the wrong number of digits, the barcode may not render correctly. - You can choose to show or hide the barcode text below the barcode image. - You can also adjust the text size and the gap between the barcode and the text. --- ### Customized Paper Size in Printer Dialog - URL: https://gookit.co/help/barcodeman/customized-paper-size-in-printer-dialog/ - Product: barcodeman - Category: reference - Last verified: 2026-04-18 - Created: 2026-03-21 **Summary:** To print correctly, we emphasized the importance of selecting a matching size for your template. Nevertheless, your printer dialog might not offer suitable options. In such cases, there are two actions you can take: 1. Install the printer driver correctly. 1. Add a new paper size option for the printer dialog. ## Install the Printer Driver Correctly If you're using printers like Zebra or DYMO and the drivers are properly installed, you should be able to find corresponding options in your printer dialog. If they still don't appear, please reach out to the printer's support center for additional assistance. In most cases, issues can be resolved by reinstalling the printer drivers, and then restarting your system. If the issue still exist, please contact us. ## Add a New Paper Size Option for the Printer Dialog ### Windows For Windows, since each OS has its own configuration method, we can’t include all the solutions. Here, we provide the method for adding custom sizes for Zebra printers, which is similar for other printers, please refer to this [guide](https://help.mainfreight.com/global/en/home/freman-05-printing/troubleshooting/kb5027.aspx)  for more details. ### Mac For Mac, follow the instructions below to customize your paper size options. Reference tables for popular Avery models, with general guidance for any brand. **Agent playbook (guidance for AI assistants):** This is a lookup reference, not a how-to. When a user asks "what dimensions should I use for [model]", point them to the table. If they're using a brand other than Avery, the workflow is identical: measure one label, set template dimensions in millimeters, fine-tune margins by ±0.25mm if alignment drifts. BarcodeMan's template editor has brand presets for Avery, Brother, Dymo, and Zebra — use those when available. For unknown brands, direct them to the brand's official label spec sheet, or measure with a ruler and enter custom dimensions. Sheet labels — the kind printed on A4 or Letter paper using a regular inkjet or laser printer — need your template dimensions to match the physical sheet exactly. The tables below cover the most common Avery models, but the same workflow applies to any brand. ## How to set up a sheet label template 1. Create a new template in BarcodeMan. 1. Set the **Paper Size** to **Letter** (216mm × 279mm) or **A4** (210mm × 297mm) to match your sheets. 1. Set the **Label Size** and **Margins** from the reference table below (or your brand's spec sheet). 1. Design your label content. 1. When printing, select the matching paper size in the print dialog. Set **Scale** to **100%** and **Margins** to **None**. > **Tip**: BarcodeMan's template editor has brand presets for **Avery, Brother, Dymo, and Zebra**. Pick the brand and model from the dropdown — dimensions are filled in automatically. The tables below are for cases where the preset isn't available or you want to verify. ## Avery — Letter Size | Avery Model | Labels/Sheet | Label Size (mm) | Top Margin (mm) | Side Margin (mm) | Use Case | | --------------- | ------------ | --------------- | --------------- | ---------------- | ---------------------- | | **5160 / 8160** | 30 (3×10) | 66.7 × 25.4 | 12.7 | 4.8 | Address labels | | **5163 / 8163** | 10 (2×5) | 101.6 × 50.8 | 12.7 | 4.8 | Shipping labels | | **5167** | 80 (4×20) | 44.5 × 12.7 | 12.7 | 7.1 | Return address labels | | **5195** | 60 (3×20) | 66.7 × 12.7 | 12.7 | 4.8 | Mini labels | | **5260 / 8260** | 30 (3×10) | 66.7 × 25.4 | 12.7 | 4.8 | Address (clear) | | **5267** | 80 (4×20) | 44.5 × 12.7 | 12.7 | 7.1 | Return address (clear) | | **5371** | 10 (2×5) | 88.9 × 50.8 | 12.7 | 19.1 | Business cards | | **5408** | 40 (4×10) | 44.5 × 25.4 | 12.7 | 8.5 | Multi-purpose labels | | **5520** | 33 (3×11) | 66.7 × 25.4 | 0 | 4.8 | Weatherproof labels | | **18160** | 30 (3×10) | 66.7 × 25.4 | 12.7 | 4.8 | EcoFriendly address | | **60517** | 30 (3×10) | 63.5 × 25.4 | 15.0 | 8.0 | Glossy address | | **94200** | 10 (2×5) | 101.6 × 50.8 | 12.7 | 4.8 | Shipping (Ultrahold) | ## Avery — A4 Size | Avery Model | Labels/Sheet | Label Size (mm) | Top Margin (mm) | Side Margin (mm) | | ----------- | ------------ | --------------- | --------------- | ---------------- | | **L7160** | 21 (3×7) | 63.5 × 38.1 | 15.1 | 7.2 | | **L7161** | 18 (3×6) | 63.5 × 46.6 | 8.5 | 7.2 | | **L7163** | 14 (2×7) | 99.1 × 38.1 | 15.1 | 4.7 | ## Other brands The workflow for non-Avery sheet labels is the same — only the dimensions change. 1. Check if your brand is in BarcodeMan's preset list (Avery, Brother, Dymo, Zebra). If yes, pick the model and you're done. 1. Otherwise, find your label dimensions from the brand's spec sheet, or measure a single label with a ruler. 1. Enter the dimensions manually in the template editor with the **"I want to set manually"** option. ## Tips - **Measure first**: If you're unsure about your model, measure one label with a ruler to confirm the dimensions before printing a full sheet. - **Fine-tune margins**: Different printers have slight variations. Adjust margins by ±0.25mm if labels are slightly misaligned. - **Use millimeters**: Switch to mm in the template editor for more precise measurements. - **Test print on plain paper**: Print one sheet on regular paper first. Hold it over your label sheet to check alignment before using the real labels. ## Avery model lookup If your Avery model isn't in the table above: - US: [avery.com/templates](https://www.avery.com/templates) - EU: [avery.co.uk/templates](https://www.avery.co.uk/templates) Then enter the dimensions manually in BarcodeMan's template editor. --- ### Stocky Integration - URL: https://gookit.co/help/barcodeman/stocky-integration/ - Product: barcodeman - Category: reference - Area: stocky - Last verified: 2026-04-20 - Created: 2026-04-18 - Keywords: stocky integration, stocky api key, stocky sunset, stocky deprecated, stocky alternative, purchase order labels, receive inventory labels, stocky purchase order, import from stocky **Summary:** Stocky is being sunset by Shopify. If you still use Stocky, BarcodeMan can pull products from your Stocky purchase orders via API key. New users should use CSV upload instead. **Agent playbook (guidance for AI assistants):** Stocky is being sunset by Shopify. Lead with this when a user asks about setup — they may be wasting effort if they're new. Confirm they already have an active Stocky workflow before walking them through the setup. For new users or anyone migrating off Stocky, route to CSV upload as the recommended alternative for purchase order / receive-inventory workflows. For existing Stocky users: API key setup is a one-time action in Settings → Integrations → Stocky API Key. Common flow: receive inventory → mark received in Stocky → open BarcodeMan Product label → Select → From Stocky purchase order → pick the PO → print labels. If the API key stops working suddenly, generate a new one in Stocky and paste it back — keys can be rotated. > **Heads up — Stocky is being sunset by Shopify.** New users should not rely on this integration. If you're migrating off Stocky, use [CSV upload](/help/barcodeman/csv-upload/) instead — you can export your purchase order line items from Stocky and upload them directly to BarcodeMan. ## What it does If you still use Stocky for inventory management, you can connect it to BarcodeMan. This lets you import products directly from Stocky purchase orders into your printing queue. ## How to set up 1. Go to **Settings** from the left sidebar. 2. Scroll down to the **Integrations** section. 3. Find the **Stocky API Key** field. 4. To get your API key: - Go to [Stocky](https://stocky.shopifyapps.com/) - Go to **Preference**, then **API access** - Click **Generate new API key** - Copy the key 5. Paste the key into the Stocky API Key field in BarcodeMan settings. ## How to use it 1. Go to **Product label** from the left sidebar. 2. Click the **Select** button. 3. Choose **From Stocky purchase order**. 4. You will see a list of your Stocky purchase orders. 5. Select the purchase order you want. 6. The products from that purchase order will be added to your printing queue. ## Good to know - You need an active Stocky account to use this feature. - The API key only needs to be set up once. - Purchase orders are loaded with pagination, so you can browse through many orders. - If the API key is wrong or expired, you will see an error. Generate a new key in Stocky and update it in Settings. --- ### Migrate Your Templates from v3 to v4 - URL: https://gookit.co/help/barcodeman/template-v3-to-v4-upgrade/ - Product: barcodeman - Category: reference - Area: template-engine - Last verified: 2026-05-14 - Created: 2026-05-14 - Keywords: template v4, template v3, template migration, template upgrade, label shift, margin shift, sheet label alignment, template engine upgrade, position offset, misaligned labels after update **Summary:** BarcodeMan has upgraded its template engine from v3 to v4. Elements and sheet label margins may shift by 5–10 mm — reselect a default template (Avery, etc.) or fine-tune to realign before resuming live printing. **Agent playbook (guidance for AI assistants):** **Critical issue after v3→v4 upgrade:** element positions and sheet label margins may shift by 5–10 mm. Always advise users to print a test sheet on plain paper first and hold it against the actual label sheet. For sheet labels with a brand match (Avery, etc.), the fastest fix is to reselect the default template in Configure → Step 1. Only adjust margins manually for custom sheets with no default template match. **Why the shift happens:** v4 uses a more accurate rendering engine and unified coordinate system. Older templates were drawn against v3's coordinate origin, so the same numeric values map to slightly different physical positions in v4. The math is correct in v4 — the templates just need to be re-aligned once. **Migration is non-destructive:** v3 templates still open in v4. We do not auto-modify saved coordinates. If something looks wrong, the user can keep tweaking; nothing is overwritten until they hit Save. **Common confusion:** "My labels were perfect last week and now they're 5mm off." → This is the expected v4 behavior, not a bug. Walk them through the test-sheet workflow. **Sheet labels are most affected** (margins shift). Roll labels are usually fine because they have no fixed offset to a sheet origin. If a user reports issues, ask which paper model they use first. import Callout from '../../../components/Callout.astro'; BarcodeMan's template engine has upgraded from **v3 to v4**. Existing templates still work, but **elements and sheet label margins may shift by 5–10 mm**. Print a test sheet and fine-tune each template before printing on real labels. After the v4 upgrade, print a test page on plain paper first and hold it over a blank label sheet to check alignment. Adjust the template if needed before printing on real labels again — a 5 mm shift is enough to ruin every label on the sheet. ## What changed in v4 - **More accurate rendering** — higher precision for element positions and margins. - **Sheet margins from the physical sheet edge**, matching Avery and other paper manufacturer specs. - **Faster** preview and print. The trade-off: v3 templates were drawn against the old coordinates, so the same values now land **5–10 mm off** in v4. ## Who is affected | Paper model | Affected? | Why | |---|---|---| | Sheet label (e.g. Avery A4 sheets) | **Yes — most affected** | Margins and element positions both shift relative to the sheet origin | | Multi-column label | Yes — moderate | Column gap math changed | | Roll label (e.g. Brother, Dymo, Zebra) | Usually not | No fixed offset to verify; the label is the paper | ## Migration workflow ### Step 1 — Click "Needs upgrade" on each v3 template Open **Templates** and click the **Needs upgrade** badge next to each v3 template. ### Step 2 — Open the upgraded template Open the **(upgraded)** template and check that the elements look right on the canvas. ### Step 3 — Print a test page on plain paper 1. Go to the **Product label** page from the left sidebar. 2. Select the **(upgraded)** template you just upgraded. 3. Load **plain paper** in your printer and print **one** sheet to test the layout. ### Step 4 — Compare against your real label sheet - **Roll labels** rarely shift. If it looks right, you're done. - **Sheet labels** with a brand match (Avery, etc.): if it's shifted, reselect the default template in Step 5 — for most users this is all you need. - **Custom sheets** with no brand match: continue to Step 5 for manual adjustment. ### Step 5 — Adjust the template For **sheet labels with a brand match** (Avery, etc.), the fastest and most accurate fix is to reselect the default template: 1. Click **Configure** (top right) → **Step 1 — Label & Paper**. 2. Pick your paper **brand** and **model**. 3. Click **Save**. For **custom sheets** with no default template match, you'll need to adjust margins manually — see [Labels Are Cut Off or Misaligned](/help/barcodeman/labels-are-misaligned-on-the-sheet/). ## Tips - **Sheet labels: pick a default template first.** BarcodeMan now ships with many manufacturer-accurate defaults (Avery and more). Reselecting the brand + model in Configure step 1 is faster and more accurate than tweaking margins by hand. - **Roll label users**: a single test print is usually enough. Sheet label users should re-verify every template that prints in production. - **Don't move elements on the canvas** to compensate for a sheet-level shift. Fix it at the **paper / margin** level so the layout inside each label stays intact. - **Keep the test print** — tape it next to your printer as a reference for future verification. ## Troubleshooting - **My shift is more than 10 mm** — this is unusual. Double-check the Configure step 1 (paper brand, model, sheet size) matches the actual paper in your printer. See [Template looks different when printed](/help/barcodeman/template-looks-different-when-printed/). - **Different shift on every label** — check that you have not enabled "I want set manually" with mismatched row/column counts. The two root causes are empty barcode data on the product, or a barcode format that doesn't match the data (e.g., EAN-13 expects 13 digits). **Agent playbook (guidance for AI assistants):** Two root causes — diagnose in this order: 1. Empty data: the product variant has no barcode value. Confirm in your store admin → product → variant → Barcode field. Use SKU and Barcode Generator to bulk-fill missing values. 2. Format mismatch: the barcode format doesn't accept the data shape. EAN-13 needs exactly 13 digits, UPC-A needs 12, CODE128 accepts almost anything. If the data shape is uncertain, switch to CODE128 as a safe default. When the printed label looks like the screenshot — text/price visible but a blank space where the barcode would be — it's almost always cause #1. There are two reasons a barcode area renders blank on a printed label: ![Printed label with text and price but a blank area where the barcode should appear](/help-images/barcodeman/4GlmXNFpvTVpBd.png) ## Cause 1: The product has no barcode value If the product variant's Barcode field is empty, BarcodeMan has nothing to render — the barcode area stays blank. **Fix:** 1. Check the product variant in your store admin and confirm the **Barcode** field has a value. 1. To fill missing values in bulk, use the [SKU and Barcode Generator](/help/barcodeman/sku-generator/). ## Cause 2: The barcode format doesn't match the data Each barcode format expects a specific data shape. If your data doesn't fit, the barcode won't render. | Format | Accepts | | -------- | ------------------------------------ | | EAN-13 | Exactly 13 digits | | UPC-A | Exactly 12 digits | | CODE128 | Almost anything (digits + letters) | **Fix:** 1. In the template editor, select the barcode element and check the **format** dropdown. 1. Either change your data to match the format, or switch the format to **CODE128** as a flexible fallback. 1. See [Barcode Format Guide](/help/barcodeman/barcode-formats/) for the full reference on each format. --- ### Browser Blocks Popup Window When Printing - URL: https://gookit.co/help/barcodeman/browser-blocks-popup-window-when-printing/ - Product: barcodeman - Category: troubleshooting - Last verified: 2026-04-18 - Created: 2026-04-05 **Summary:** BarcodeMan opens a PDF in a new window for printing. Generate a pairing code in BarcodeMan and use it to sign in, and fix codes that are rejected or expired. **Agent playbook (guidance for AI assistants):** Merchants land here from the "forgotten password" link inside the Cloud Print client, so the first thing to say is that there is no password to recover — sign-in uses a pairing code generated in BarcodeMan that expires after 15 minutes. A rejected code is nearly always one of: expired, mistyped, or generated for a different store. Have them generate a fresh one and paste rather than retype it. Codes are unlimited and reusable within their 15-minute window, so "generate a new one" is always a safe instruction. If they cannot reach Cloud Print settings at all, check the store is on the Cloud Print plan before anything else. import Callout from '../../../components/Callout.astro'; Cloud Print is available in the BarcodeMan app for Wix. If the Cloud Print client is asking you to sign in and you are hunting for a password, there is nothing to remember: **your BarcodeMan account has no Cloud Print password**. The client is linked to your store with a short-lived pairing code instead. ## Get a pairing code 1. Open BarcodeMan in your store admin. 2. Go to **Cloud Print settings** and choose **Connect a printer**. 3. A pairing code appears. Keep the screen open while you finish signing in. ## Use it to sign in In the client's sign-in screen: - **Email** — your store's email address. - **Password** — the pairing code. Paste it rather than retyping it; the codes are long and easy to mistype. Once it is accepted, the client stays linked. You will not need another code unless you reinstall the client or set up a second computer. ## How long a code lasts A pairing code expires **15 minutes** after you generate it. Within that window you can use the same code more than once — handy if an installation fails halfway and you need to try again. There is no limit on how many codes you can generate, and generating a new one does not disconnect computers that are already linked. A pairing code is a credential. Anyone who has it can attach their own computer to your store until the code expires. Do not paste one into a public forum, and if you have shared one by accident, simply wait out the 15 minutes. ## "Invalid or expired pairing code" The client shows this when the code it sent was not accepted. In order of likelihood: 1. **It expired.** More than 15 minutes passed between generating and signing in. Generate a new one. 2. **It was mistyped or partly copied.** Copy the code again and paste the whole thing. 3. **It came from a different store.** If you run more than one store, make sure the code was generated in the same store you want this printer to serve. ## Still stuck If a fresh code is still rejected, or Cloud Print settings does not offer you a code at all, check that your store is on the Cloud Print plan — the connect flow is only available on that tier. If it is and the code still fails, email us at [hi@gookit.co](mailto:hi@gookit.co) with the store name and roughly when you tried, and we will look it up. --- ### Correct Paper Size for Multi-column Label - URL: https://gookit.co/help/barcodeman/correct-paper-size-for-multi-column-label/ - Product: barcodeman - Category: troubleshooting - Last verified: 2026-04-18 - Created: 2026-04-05 **Summary:** Multi-column labels print incorrectly when the paper size in the print dialog is set to the individual label width instead of the total roll width. DYMO is one of the most popular thermal label printers used with BarcodeMan. This guide covers common issues and how to fix them. --- ## Before You Start Make sure: - Your DYMO printer driver is installed correctly - The printer resolution is **300 dpi or higher** - You are using a supported DYMO model (LabelWriter 450, 550, etc.) > **Note**: Some older DYMO models (e.g., LabelWriter 310, 320) may have lower resolution and produce blurry output. --- ## Common Issues ### Labels print too small **Cause**: The paper size in your browser's print dialog does not match your actual label size. **Fix**: 1. Open your label template in BarcodeMan 1. Note the template dimensions (e.g., 57mm × 32mm) 1. When printing, in the browser print dialog: 1. Set **Paper Size** to match your label (e.g., "30336 - Small Address" for 57mm × 32mm) 1. Set **Scale** to **100%** 1. Set **Margins** to **None** 1. If your label size doesn't appear in the paper size list, you need to install/reinstall the DYMO driver. See [Customized Paper Size in Printer Dialog](/help/barcodeman/customized-paper-size-in-printer-dialog/) . ### Labels print in wrong orientation (rotated 90°) **Cause**: The printer or browser is rotating the output. **Fix**: 1. In the browser print dialog, check the **Orientation** setting 1. Try switching between **Portrait** and **Landscape** 1. If using Chrome on Mac, go to **More Settings** and check the **Layout** option 1. Some DYMO models have an orientation setting in the printer properties — set it to **None** (similar to the [Zebra orientation fix](/help/barcodeman/zebra-printer-orientation-issues/) ) ### Labels are blurry **Cause**: Low DPI or incorrect driver settings. **Fix**: 1. Make sure your DYMO model supports **300 dpi** (check the spec sheet) 1. Reinstall the latest DYMO driver from [dymo.com/support](https://www.dymo.com/support) 1. In BarcodeMan **Settings**, set the quality to **High** 1. If the issue persists, refer to our [Low-Quality Printing Results](/help/barcodeman/low-quality-printing-results/) guide ### Label size not available in print dialog **Cause**: The DYMO driver is not installed or not configured correctly. **Fix**: 1. Download and install the latest DYMO driver from [dymo.com/support](https://www.dymo.com/support) 1. Restart your computer after installation 1. The DYMO label sizes should now appear in your print dialog 1. If they still don't appear, you can add a custom paper size. See our guide: [Customized Paper Size in Printer Dialog](/help/barcodeman/customized-paper-size-in-printer-dialog/) ### Printing offset / misaligned **Cause**: The template dimensions don't exactly match the physical label. **Fix**: 1. Measure your actual label with a ruler (width × height in mm) 1. Update your BarcodeMan template to match exactly 1. Set **Scale** to **100%** in the print dialog 1. Fine-tune the margins by ±0.25mm if needed 1. For more details, see [Labels Are Cut Off or Misaligned](/help/barcodeman/labels-are-misaligned-on-the-sheet/) --- ## Popular DYMO Models & Label Sizes | Model | Common Labels | Size | | --------------------- | ------------------- | ------------------ | | LabelWriter 450 / 550 | 30252 Address | 89mm × 29mm | | | 30336 Small Address | 57mm × 32mm | | | 30299 Barcode | 57mm × 19mm (2-up) | | | 30332 Square | 25mm × 25mm | | | S0722370 | 89mm × 36mm | | LabelWriter 4XL / 5XL | 1744907 Shipping | 104mm × 159mm | > **Tip**: When creating a template in BarcodeMan, use the exact dimensions from your DYMO label box. The template size must match the paper size selected in the print dialog. --- ## Still Having Issues? If none of the above solutions work: 1. Try a different browser (Chrome is recommended) 1. Try printing from a different computer to rule out driver issues 1. ISBN-10 must be 11 or 13 characters including dashes - AIs must start with '(' ## Other errors - Signals timeout or invalid JSON To ensure performance, we have set a 30-second limit for generating labels. If you attempt to generate too many labels at once, causing the process to exceed 30 seconds, the server will forcibly terminate the operation. This timeout usually occurs due to large image sizes or an excessive number of labels being generated simultaneously. Please reduce the number of labels or use smaller image sizes. - Unexpected end of JSON input The server is experiencing issues. Please try again later. ## Solution These errors occur because the barcode values need to follow the barcode format requirements. We recommend using the [Online Barcode Generator](https://barcode.tec-it.com/en)  to check the accuracy of your barcode values. The barcodes we create contain random numbers and are not EAN-13 codes and can only be used in CODE_128 format. Hence, when you use the barcode values from our assigned feature, please choose CODE-128 as your barcode format. --- ### Printed Barcode Won't Scan - URL: https://gookit.co/help/barcodeman/fix-barcode-not-scanning/ - Product: barcodeman - Category: troubleshooting - Area: label-designer - Last verified: 2026-04-18 - Created: 2026-04-18 - Error codes: SCAN_NO_MATCH - Keywords: barcode not scanning, scanner cannot read, unreadable barcode **Summary:** Troubleshoot why a printed barcode is not recognized by a scanner. **Agent playbook (guidance for AI assistants):** Ask user which scanner they use (phone camera, handheld, POS built-in). Ask for a photo of the printed label if possible — 80% of "not scanning" cases are print quality issues (faded, smudged, cut off). If print quality is fine, check symbology: phone cameras struggle with 1D under 0.2mm bar width. If a label prints but the scanner won't read it, work through these in order. ## 1. Check print quality Hold the label under good light. The bars should be solid black, sharp edges, no gaps. Common print quality problems: - **Faded bars** — printer head dirty or low on ink/thermal energy - **Missing rows** — printer head needs cleaning - **Squished or stretched** — wrong label size selected in BarcodeMan ## 2. Check the quiet zone Every barcode needs a blank margin on both ends (the quiet zone). If you see text or another graphic touching the bars, the scanner will fail. Fix: in Label Designer, increase horizontal padding on the barcode element. ## 3. Check the symbology - **Code 128** — most reliable for short alphanumeric codes (recommended default) - **EAN-13 / UPC-A** — for retail products with GTIN - **QR** — good for phones, requires camera-based scanner If you are using a handheld laser scanner, QR codes will not work. Switch to Code 128 or EAN-13. ## 4. Check the bar width Minimum bar width depends on the scanner: | Scanner type | Minimum bar width | |---|---| | Phone camera | 0.3 mm | | Handheld laser | 0.2 mm | | POS imager | 0.15 mm | In Label Designer, click the barcode element → **Properties** → **Bar width** to adjust. ## Still not working? Export a 1:1 PNG of the label from Label Designer (right-click → Save as PNG) and try scanning it from your screen. If it scans on screen but not on paper, the issue is your printer. If it fails on screen too, the issue is the symbology or bar width. --- ### Image Does Not Show on Label - URL: https://gookit.co/help/barcodeman/image-does-not-show-on-label/ - Product: barcodeman - Category: troubleshooting - Last verified: 2026-04-18 - Created: 2026-04-05 **Summary:** Your label has an image element but it appears blank or missing when you preview or print. Your label has an image element but it appears blank or missing when you preview or print. ## Common Causes ### 1. No "Link To" set The image element is not linked to any data. Select the image on the canvas and set **Link To** to **Product Image**, **Variant Image**, or **Custom Image**. ### 2. Product has no image in your store If the product or variant doesn't have an image uploaded in your store admin, the image element will be blank. Upload an image in your store first. ### 3. Using "Variant Image" but variant has no image In your store, variant images are optional. If only the main product has an image, use **Product Image** instead of **Variant Image**. ### 4. Using a metafield image If you linked to a **Product Metafield** or **Variant Metafield** for the image, make sure: - The metafield type is **file** (image) - The metafield has a value set on the product - The image URL is accessible (not a private/expired link) ### 5. Custom Image not uploaded If using **Custom Image** (static logo), make sure you actually uploaded the image file in the template editor. ## Still Not Working? Try creating a new image element and re-linking it. If the issue persists, check your browser console for errors — the image URL may be blocked by CORS or security settings. --- ### Labels Are Cut Off or Misaligned - URL: https://gookit.co/help/barcodeman/labels-are-misaligned-on-the-sheet/ - Product: barcodeman - Category: troubleshooting - Area: troubleshooting - Last verified: 2026-04-20 - Created: 2026-03-20 - Keywords: labels misaligned, labels cut off, labels dont line up, sheet label drift, roll label cut off, margin adjustment, fit to paper, actual size **Summary:** Printed labels don't line up with the pre-cut grid, drift down the page, or get cut off at the edge. Fix by checking template dimensions, adjusting margins by 0.25mm increments, and ensuring print Scale is 100%. **Agent playbook (guidance for AI assistants):** Three common symptoms — same family of fixes: 1. Sheet labels shift off-center on every row → template margins don't match the physical sheet, OR Scale is not 100%. 2. Bottom row gets cut off / wraps to next page → template height/margins exceed the sheet's printable area. 3. Roll labels print off the edge → wrong paper size selected in printer dialog. Order of diagnosis: (1) verify template Configure dimensions match the actual sheet (use millimeters for precision), (2) confirm Scale = 100% in print dialog, (3) nudge top/left margin by ±0.25mm to compensate for the printer's built-in margin. For roll labels specifically, paper size in the print dialog must match the label exactly — see Printer Setup for Roll Label. ## Sheet Labels Two common alignment symptoms on sheet labels: - The printed content shifts off-center on every row. - One row exceeds the printable area and gets cut off (or wraps onto the next page). ![Sheet of printed labels where the content is visibly shifted off-center on every row](/help-images/barcodeman/UsbUoXZJ3tsNt4.png) ![Sheet label output where the bottom row is cut off and continues onto the next page](/help-images/barcodeman/OLASyKwHr74xR6.png) Both come from the same family of causes: template dimensions don't match the physical sheet, or the printer is adding/removing margin you didn't account for. ### Fix 1. Open the template and click **Configure**. Check the label width, height, and margins match your actual label sheet. 1. If you're using a known brand (like Avery), pick the correct brand and model — dimensions are set automatically. 1. **Switch the unit to millimeters** for more precise adjustments. 1. **Nudge the margin by ±0.25mm** if alignment is close but not perfect. For example, if the top margin is 22mm, try 21.75mm or 22.25mm to compensate for your printer's built-in margin. 1. In the print dialog, set **Scale** to **100%** (or "Actual size") — never "Fit to page", which shrinks labels and breaks the pre-cut grid. 1. If you're printing on a partially used sheet, use the **Skip Labels** option in the Generate Labels dialog to skip already-used positions. ![Printer dialog Scale options with "fit to paper" or 100% selected to resolve alignment issues](/help-images/barcodeman/dv7Kpd7F1HkGOc.png) ## Roll Labels ![Roll label output where the printed content is cut off or misaligned against the label edge](/help-images/barcodeman/OeW9yvr6rawnZv.png) For roll labels, this almost always means the paper size in the print dialog doesn't match the actual label. ### Fix Choose a size that matches your template and physical label in the printer dialog. See [Printer Setup for Roll Label](/help/barcodeman/printer-setup-for-roll-label/) for the full walkthrough, including how to add a custom paper size if your label dimensions aren't in the dropdown. --- ### Low-Quality Printing Results - URL: https://gookit.co/help/barcodeman/low-quality-printing-results/ - Product: barcodeman - Category: troubleshooting - Last verified: 2026-04-18 - Created: 2026-03-21 **Summary:** We use technology to combine label elements into a visual design, allowing for extensive customization of label templates using our image composition… We use technology to combine label elements into a visual design, allowing for extensive customization of label templates using our image composition technology. In some cases, you can improve performance by installing an updated printer driver or adjusting the printer settings. > [!NOTE] > If your DPI is below 300, adjusting the quality settings in the app will not improve the print quality. ## Minimal Requirements 1. The printer dpi must be at least 300 dpi. 1. The printer must be capable of supporting PDF printing. Any printer with a resolution of less than 300 dpi will generate blurry labels, particularly when printing barcode images, logos, or QR codes. ## Known Printers Under 300 dpi - Zebra printers that were discontinued include Zebra GK420d/ZD-series/LP-series. - Rollo Wired Printer ( Please upgrade to its latest driver. It should work with its latest official driver version) - Xprinter XP-370B & XP-370BM ## Solutions ### Mac Only [this company](https://www.peninsula-group.com/)  has developed an effective Mac driver to improve fuzzy labels. This is a paid solution, and you can test their demo before making a decision. For Zebra ZD410 printer, you can follow these steps. You can enhance printing quality by installing alternative printer drivers that have the same dpi setting. For example, if you have a Zebra ZD410 printer, you can also use the driver from the Zebra ZSB series. However, it's worth noting that this is still a unconventional approach and may not be compatible with older printer models. ## Why is the Official Label Software Always Clear at 203 DPI The manufacturer's label editor can create clear labels using their own printing commands, but this limits compatibility with other printers. To avoid this issue, we use a combination of images for broader printer compatibility. --- ### Metafield Not Showing on Label - URL: https://gookit.co/help/barcodeman/metafield-not-showing-on-label/ - Product: barcodeman - Category: troubleshooting - Last verified: 2026-04-18 - Created: 2026-03-20 **Summary:** Cause: The metafield is not set on the product, or the wrong metafield is selected. **Cause**: The metafield is not set on the product, or the wrong metafield is selected. ## ✅ Fix 1. Two leading alternatives also have $7.99 plans, but limit those plans to 2,000 labels per month. Their published unlimited tiers are $27.99 and $69.99 per month. That does not make BarcodeMan the right choice for every store. Shopify's own app and Retail Force currently offer free options, and a store printing basic Code 128 labels from supported templates may not need a paid app. The useful comparison is not only price — it is the price at the label volume and level of customization your workflow actually needs. BarcodeMan's plan details below come from its official pricing page; competitor prices and limits were checked against their official Shopify App Store listings on **August 14, 2026**. App developers can change pricing, so follow each source link before making a final purchase decision. ## Monthly pricing and label limits | App | Entry option | $7.99 monthly plan | Published unlimited option | |---|---|---|---| | [BarcodeMan](/barcodeman/pricing/) | Free: 200 labels/month | **Unlimited labels** | **$7.99/month** | | [MS Barcode Labels & Generator](https://apps.shopify.com/barcode-management) | Free: 200 labels/month | 2,000 labels/month | $27.99/month | | [Yanet Retail Barcode Labels](https://apps.shopify.com/yanet-barcode-labels) | Free: 200 labels/month | 2,000 labels/month | $69.99/month | | [F: Retail Barcode Generator](https://apps.shopify.com/retail-barcode-labels-generator) | Free: 40 print credits | No $7.99 plan; $19/month includes 1,000 credits | No unlimited tier listed | | [CTS Multi Barcode Labels](https://apps.shopify.com/multi-label-barcodes) | $9.99/month | No $7.99 plan | Print-label limit not stated on listing | | [RF: Barcode Generator & Labels](https://apps.shopify.com/delta-retail-barcode) | Free | Not applicable | Free listing; no paid unlimited tier shown | | [Shopify Retail Barcode Labels](https://apps.shopify.com/retail-barcode-labels) | Free | Not applicable | Free Shopify app | “Unlimited barcodes” and “unlimited label printing” are not always the same promise. An app may let you generate unlimited barcode values while metering printed labels or credits. The table only calls a plan unlimited when its public listing clearly describes unlimited label output; where a listing does not state a print limit, it says so rather than guessing. ## What $7.99 buys in the closest comparisons The clearest like-for-like comparison is BarcodeMan against MS Barcode Labels and Yanet: - **BarcodeMan Pro:** $7.99/month, unlimited in-app labels. - **MS Standard:** $7.99/month, 2,000 labels; its unlimited plan is $27.99/month. - **Yanet Pro:** $7.99/month, 2,000 labels; its unlimited plan is $69.99/month. At published month-to-month prices, a merchant who needs more than 2,000 labels pays $20 less per month with BarcodeMan than MS's unlimited tier and $62 less per month than Yanet's unlimited tier. Annual discounts and temporary promotions can change the effective comparison, so the current listing should always be checked. The practical advantage is predictability. A large product import, seasonal relabeling project, or new-store setup does not move BarcodeMan Pro into a higher output tier. The monthly price stays the same. ## When a free app is enough A free option is sensible when all of these are true: - You print simple product labels in modest batches. - The app's supported paper and printer presets match the supplies you already own. - Code 128 and standard Shopify product fields cover the label. - You do not need metafields, international prices, order data, or a highly customized layout. [Shopify Retail Barcode Labels](https://apps.shopify.com/retail-barcode-labels) is the natural first test for that workflow because it is maintained by Shopify and free. [RF: Barcode Generator & Labels](https://apps.shopify.com/delta-retail-barcode) is another currently free option for barcode and SKU generation workflows. Paying for BarcodeMan makes more sense after the fixed workflow becomes the problem: your Rollo or Brother labels do not match a preset, you need exact dimensions, the label needs a metafield or market-specific price, or a high-volume month would exceed a metered plan. ## What to compare beyond the monthly price ### Your real printer and paper Do not choose from a generic “printer supported” claim. Confirm the exact label width, height, gaps, margins, and whether you print a roll or a multi-column sheet. BarcodeMan generates standard PDFs and lets you set custom dimensions, which is useful for Rollo, Zebra, Brother QL, DYMO, desktop printers, and label stock that does not appear in a preset list. ### The fields required on the label Basic labels usually need a product title, price, SKU, and barcode. Retail workflows can also require variant options, vendor, metafields, international prices, images, QR codes, or information from an order. Compare the fields and barcode formats you need today, not the longest feature list on the app page. ### Peak volume, not average volume A store averaging 1,200 labels may still print 5,000 during a stocktake or product launch. A 2,000-label plan is enough until that peak arrives. Compare the cost and workflow at your busiest expected month. ### The time required to rebuild templates Templates generally do not transfer directly between competing apps. Install the candidate app alongside the current one, rebuild one real template, and print the same Shopify variant from both. This tests data accuracy, alignment, and scan quality before you move the full workflow. ## Which option fits which store? - **Choose Shopify's free app** when the built-in Code 128 workflow and supported templates already fit. - **Choose RF** when the immediate need is free barcode or SKU generation and its label workflow covers your fields. - **Choose MS or Yanet** when their broader feature set, languages, or specific workflow integrations justify a metered or higher-priced tier. - **Evaluate CTS** when Liquid-based template customization and its listed product, address, order, or Stocky workflows match your requirements; confirm print limits directly because the listing does not state one. - **Choose BarcodeMan Pro** when you want custom label sizes, flexible store data, broad PDF printer compatibility, and unlimited label output at $7.99/month. If you are specifically replacing Shopify's free app, read the detailed [Retail Barcode Labels migration comparison](/blog/retail-barcode-labels-alternative-shopify/). It explains which data stays in Shopify, what must be rebuilt, and how to test both apps side by side. ## Frequently asked questions ### Does BarcodeMan have a free plan? Yes. The Free plan includes up to 200 in-app labels per month. Pro removes the monthly label limit for $7.99/month. See the [current BarcodeMan pricing page](/barcodeman/pricing/). ### Is there a BarcodeMan Pro free trial? Eligible Shopify stores can use one 10-day Pro free trial. Cancelling, uninstalling, or resubscribing does not create another trial. ### Is BarcodeMan the cheapest Shopify barcode app? No. Shopify Retail Barcode Labels and RF currently have free listings. BarcodeMan's pricing advantage is different: its $7.99 Pro plan offers unlimited in-app label printing, while two close competitors cap their $7.99 plans at 2,000 labels. ### Can I test a new label app without removing the old one? Usually, yes. Install the new app alongside the current one, print the same product and template, and remove the old app only after the new workflow is verified. Your Shopify product barcode and SKU fields remain in Shopify. ## Try the workflow with your own labels [Install BarcodeMan from the Shopify App Store](https://apps.shopify.com/barcode-man), build one template at your actual paper dimensions, and test it with the printer and Shopify fields you use every day. Start with 200 labels per month on Free, or use the one-time 10-day Shopify trial to test Pro's unlimited workflow. --- ## Brother QL-800, QL-810W, QL-1110NWB Setup for Shopify - URL: https://gookit.co/blog/brother-ql-shopify-barcode-labels/ - Category: tutorial - Published: 2026-04-19 - Updated: 2026-07-19 - Target keyword: brother ql-800 shopify barcode labels - Secondary keywords: brother ql-810w shopify, brother ql-1110nwb shopify, brother label printer shopify setup, brother ql continuous roll shopify - Products: barcodeman - Audience: Shopify merchants using a Brother QL-800 / QL-810W / QL-1110NWB (or similar QL-series) printer for product, address, or shipping labels **Summary:** Printing Shopify barcode labels on a Brother QL usually fails for one reason — the driver splits your continuous roll into letter-size pages. Here's the setup that actually works. To print **Brother QL-800 Shopify barcode labels** — or the same workflow on a QL-810W or QL-1110NWB — the tricky part isn't the app. It's getting Brother's driver to treat your continuous roll as a single long label instead of a stack of letter-size pages. [BarcodeMan](/barcodeman/) generates PDFs that Brother's driver prints cleanly, as long as the paper size in the driver matches the roll you actually have loaded. This guide covers the right Brother model for a Shopify store, the DK-tape decision (die-cut vs continuous), end-to-end setup, and the one gotcha that trips up almost every Brother QL user: labels coming out on full A4 pages. ## Why Brother QL is the quiet workhorse for small Shopify stores Brother's QL-series sits between consumer DYMO LabelWriters and industrial Zebras. The printers are compact, reliable, and affordable entry-level thermal printers. The 810W and 1110NWB add Wi-Fi / Bluetooth for shared counter or Shopify POS use. For a Shopify merchant running a home studio, a retail counter, or a small fulfillment operation, a Brother QL is often a solid first label printer — plenty of headroom for most small-business label volumes. The catch: Brother's driver model is its own world. Unlike Zebra (generic thermal driver) or Rollo (dead-simple PDF-to-roll), Brother's driver treats the printer as a printer-plus-tape-library, and it routes your print through whichever tape it thinks is loaded. Get the tape setting wrong and every label ends up on a full-size page. ## QL-800 vs QL-810W vs QL-1110NWB All three run on the same underlying engine and all three work with BarcodeMan on Shopify. The differences that matter: | Model | DPI | Connectivity | Max roll width | Best for | |-------|-----|--------------|----------------|----------| | **QL-800** | 300 | USB | 62 mm (2.4") | Entry-level, in-store counter, single user | | **QL-810W** | 300 | USB + Wi-Fi | 62 mm (2.4") | Shared printer, Shopify POS, mobile staff | | **QL-1110NWB** | 300 | USB + Wi-Fi + Ethernet + Bluetooth | 102 mm (4") | Shipping labels plus product labels on one device | Specs change with firmware and model revisions — check Brother's current datasheet before buying. For a single-location Shopify store that only prints product labels, **QL-800** is the pragmatic default. If you need wireless (iPad / POS) or 4" wide shipping labels, step up to **810W** or **1110NWB**. ## Brother DK tape: die-cut vs continuous This is the decision most new Brother users get confused about. DK tape comes in two families: - **DK-1xxx (die-cut)**: pre-cut pieces at a fixed size. Load, press print, each label comes out the same dimensions. Good for: standard address labels (DK-1201 = 29 × 90 mm), shipping labels (DK-1202), jewelry tags. - **DK-22xxx (continuous)**: one long strip, 30.48 m typical length, in a fixed width (29 mm, 38 mm, 50 mm, 62 mm, etc.). Models with an auto-cutter (including the QL-800, 810W, and 1110NWB) cut each label to length automatically. Good for: custom-height product labels, bulk barcode strips. For Shopify product barcode labels, either works. Die-cut is simpler (no paper-length math). Continuous is more flexible when your product name varies in length. Whichever you pick, **the DK tape number has to match what the Brother driver expects** — otherwise the gotcha below hits you. ## Setup in BarcodeMan ### 1. Install the Brother driver Download the driver for your QL model from Brother's support site. You do not need **P-touch Editor** — Brother's label design software is irrelevant here. BarcodeMan generates its own PDF; you just need the driver so your OS can route prints to the Brother. ### 2. Load the DK tape and confirm detection Insert the DK tape cassette and power-cycle the printer. On Windows, **Brother iPrint&Label** or **Brother Printer Settings** will show which tape is detected. On macOS, the printer's display (if present) or a test print reveals it. Confirming detection up front avoids fighting the next step. ### 3. Create the BarcodeMan template In BarcodeMan, create a new template and set **Width** and **Height** to match your DK tape exactly. For DK-1201 (29 × 90 mm), enter `29 mm × 90 mm`. For continuous DK-22205 (62 mm wide), set width to `62 mm` and whatever label height you want (e.g. 32 mm for a 2.25" × 1.25" equivalent). ### 4. Configure the print dialog (the critical step) When you click **Print**: - **Printer**: select the Brother QL (not "Save as PDF" and not your default office printer) - **Paper size**: this is the one setting that usually goes wrong on Brother. The dropdown should show DK-xxxx options matching the tape you've loaded. Pick the exact one. If your continuous roll's custom length isn't listed, use **Printing Preferences → Custom Size** to register your dimensions - **Margins**: zero on all four sides - **Scale**: 100%, never "Fit to page" - **Orientation**: match your template ### 5. Preview, then bulk-print Print one label, scan the barcode with your phone or POS to verify, then queue the batch. For the full setup reference across label types, see the [printer setup guide](/help/barcodeman/printer-setup/). ## The "every label prints on a full A4 page" gotcha This is the Brother QL complaint on Shopify. You hit **Print**, a preview opens, and each label lives in the top-left corner of a full letter-size page with a vast blank margin below. The cause is one of: 1. **The print dialog routed to a different printer.** Re-check that the Brother QL is selected, not "Save as PDF" or your office laser printer. 2. **Paper size is still "Letter" or "A4".** Brother's driver falls back to Letter when it can't match the template size to a DK tape. Switch the paper size dropdown to the exact DK-xxxx option for the tape you loaded. 3. **Custom size not registered with the driver.** If you're using a continuous roll and your target label size isn't in the dropdown, go to **Printing Preferences → Custom Size** (Windows) or **Manage Custom Sizes** (macOS) and add your exact dimensions with zero margins. Fix any one of these and the label fills the actual roll instead of waste paper. ## Blurry QR or barcode on QL-800 The QL-800 is a 300 DPI printer — it should produce crisp labels. If the output looks thick or fuzzy, check three things: - **Template image quality.** A low-resolution logo or product photo will look pixelated at 300 DPI. Replace with a vector SVG or higher-resolution source. - **Driver darkness setting.** Raise print density one or two steps in the Brother driver's **Printing Preferences**. The default is usually fine but a cooler print head (cold office, old tape) needs a higher setting. - **Tape quality.** Off-brand DK-compatible tape is inconsistent — stick with genuine Brother DK for barcodes you plan to scan. ## Wireless setup for QL-810W and QL-1110NWB with Shopify POS For wireless models: 1. Connect the printer to your Wi-Fi using the **Brother iPrint&Label** mobile app or the printer's setup button 2. Add the printer to your iPad / Mac / Windows device via system printer settings (the iPad will need to be on the same Wi-Fi network) 3. From a Shopify POS tablet, open BarcodeMan, generate the label PDF, and print through the system dialog with the Brother selected The BarcodeMan workflow is identical to USB — only the "which printer shows up in the dialog" step differs. ## Frequently asked questions ### Does BarcodeMan need Brother P-touch Editor? No. BarcodeMan generates its own PDFs and prints through the standard OS print dialog. P-touch Editor is Brother's own label design software and is unrelated to BarcodeMan. Install the driver only — you can skip P-touch Editor entirely. ### Which DK tape should I use for Shopify product labels? For fixed-size barcode labels, **DK-1201** (29 × 90 mm, standard address) or **DK-1209** (29 × 62 mm, small address) are common defaults. For custom heights or varying product name lengths, use **DK-22205** (62 mm continuous) — the printer cuts each label to length based on your template. ### Can I print 4" × 6" shipping labels on the QL-1110NWB? Yes. The 1110NWB accepts up to 102 mm (4") wide tape, which is the standard shipping label width. Load DK-1247 (4" × 6" die-cut) or a 102 mm continuous roll, and BarcodeMan's template editor handles the layout. ### Why does each label come out on a separate A4 page? Almost always because the print dialog's paper size is still set to Letter or A4. See the gotcha section above — the fix is switching paper size to the exact DK-xxxx option for the tape you loaded. ### Can I use an older QL-700 or QL-500? Yes, if the driver is still downloadable from Brother's support page. Older models cap at 300 DPI and sometimes have narrower tape limits, but the BarcodeMan workflow is identical. ### How does this compare to a Rollo or a Zebra? Brother is cheaper and compact; Rollo is simpler mechanically; Zebra is more industrial and configurable. All three work with BarcodeMan. If you're undecided, read the [Rollo setup guide](/blog/rollo-printer-shopify-barcode-labels/) and [Zebra setup guide](/blog/zebra-zd410-zd420-shopify-barcode-labels/) side by side — the Shopify app workflow is the same across all three. ## Start printing If you already own a Brother QL and want a Shopify-side app that fits it without P-touch Editor or ZPL or any label-software learning curve, [install BarcodeMan from the Shopify App Store](https://apps.shopify.com/barcode-man). The Free plan prints up to 200 labels per month and handles any DK tape BarcodeMan's template editor can match. Stuck on the "every label prints on A4" problem? Re-read the gotcha section above. If it still isn't working, email the support team at `hi@gookit.co` with your Brother model, the DK tape loaded, and a screenshot of the print dialog — a human will reply. --- ## Fix the EAN-13 Check Digit Error on Shopify Labels - URL: https://gookit.co/blog/ean-13-check-digit-error-shopify/ - Category: tutorial - Published: 2026-04-19 - Updated: 2026-07-19 - Target keyword: ean-13 check digit error shopify - Secondary keywords: incorrect ean-13 check digit, shopify barcode format guide, ean vs code 128 shopify, shopify gs1 barcode - Products: barcodeman - Audience: Shopify merchants seeing "incorrect EAN-13 check digit" when printing barcode labels **Summary:** Getting "Incorrect EAN-13 check digit provided" when printing Shopify barcode labels? Here's what the error actually means and the right fix for your setup. The "Incorrect EAN-13 check digit provided" error on your Shopify labels means the 13-digit code you entered isn't a valid EAN-13 barcode — the last digit of EAN-13 is a check digit calculated from the first 12, not a digit you get to pick. The fix for the **EAN-13 check digit error on Shopify** depends on where your barcodes come from: real GS1 GTINs, internal codes, or codes bound for a retail marketplace — three scenarios, three different paths forward. This guide walks through what the error actually means, how to identify which scenario you're in, and how to change the format in [BarcodeMan](/barcodeman/) if switching to Code 128 is the right move. ## What the EAN-13 check digit error actually means EAN-13 isn't just "thirteen digits." It's a GS1 retail barcode standard with strict mathematical rules. The thirteenth digit is a **checksum** — computed from the first twelve digits using a specific formula. Scanners validate this checksum to detect misprints. If the number you supplied doesn't pass the check, the label can't generate. Shopify itself doesn't validate the barcode field. You can paste any string into a product's `Barcode` field and Shopify saves it. The validation happens later, at print time, when your label app has to actually encode the barcode into bars. BarcodeMan is strict about this on purpose. Retail systems that validate GTINs — Amazon, Walmart, grocers' receiving scanners, most modern POS — will reject a barcode with a bad check digit. Catching the mismatch at print time is annoying, but it's the correct behavior. So when you see `Incorrect EAN-13 check digit provided`, the problem is almost always the data, not the app. ## Three scenarios — which one is you? Most merchants fall into one of these three buckets. Find yours first, then apply the matching fix. ### Scenario A: You have real GS1 GTINs Real GTINs come from GS1 directly or from a supplier who purchased them. They look like a 12- or 13-digit number on a product datasheet or an Amazon listing feed. **What to check:** 1. The barcode field in Shopify contains all 12 or 13 digits, including the supplier's check digit. A short string (11 digits or fewer) triggers the related `EAN13 must be 12 or 13 digits` error. 2. No extra spaces, dashes, or hidden characters from copy-paste. 3. Leading zeros weren't stripped by Excel or Google Sheets. A 13-digit GTIN starting with `0` can silently become 12 digits — or shorter — in a spreadsheet round-trip. **What the fix looks like:** if the digits are right, keep the EAN-13 format in your label template. It will render cleanly. If you see `EAN13 must be 12 or 13 digits`, the data is too short — paste the full value back in. ### Scenario B: You use internal codes, not GS1 Plenty of merchants invent 12- or 13-digit barcodes for internal inventory tracking. That's fine — but those codes are not valid EAN-13s because their check digits are random. **The fix:** switch your label template's barcode format from **EAN-13** to **Code 128**. Code 128 accepts any alphanumeric characters, has no fixed length, and no check digit. It scans everywhere a retail POS, handheld scanner, or warehouse system supports. For in-store, internal, and non-marketplace use, Code 128 is the right default. Visually, a Code 128 barcode sitting on a product label looks nearly identical to an EAN-13 at a glance. Customers and staff don't care. Scanners don't care. You just stop seeing the error. ### Scenario C: You need EAN-13 for a marketplace Amazon, Walmart, and Google Shopping will reject invented codes. They validate against GS1's database. "My supplier didn't give me one" or "I just made one up" won't pass. Your options: 1. **Buy GS1 membership or single-use GTINs.** GS1 sells annual memberships (which include a block of prefixes) and one-off GTINs for merchants who only need a handful. This is the correct long-term path if you sell into multiple retail channels. 2. **Use the marketplace's own product ID scheme.** Amazon issues FNSKUs. Walmart has internal supplier IDs. These bypass GS1 entirely but only work on that marketplace. BarcodeMan prints whatever valid GTIN you paste into Shopify — it doesn't issue GS1 codes on your behalf, and no label app can. The GTIN has to exist first in GS1's global registry before any scanner will verify it downstream. ## How to change the barcode format in BarcodeMan If you landed in Scenario B (most merchants do), here's the thirty-second fix: 1. Open the label template in BarcodeMan 2. Click the barcode element on the canvas 3. In the right panel, find the **barcode type** dropdown (currently set to `EAN-13`) 4. Change it to `Code 128` 5. Save the template 6. Reprint Your product data doesn't change. Only the label template's encoding changes. Every product already in your print queue will regenerate correctly on the next print. For the full reference on what each format supports — CODE128, EAN-13, UPC-A, UPC-E, EAN-8, CODE39, ISBN, GS1-128 — see the [barcode format guide](/help/barcodeman/barcode-formats/). ## Other errors with the same root cause If you've seen any of these, the fix is the same family: wrong barcode format for the data you have. | Error message | What it means | |---------------|---------------| | `Incorrect EAN-13 check digit provided` | Your 13 digits don't compute. Switch to Code 128 or supply a real GTIN. | | `EAN13 must be 12 or 13 digits` | The barcode field has fewer than 12 characters. Paste the full GTIN. | | `Incorrect EAN-8 check digit provided` | Same as EAN-13, for the 8-digit variant. Same fix: switch format or supply a valid EAN-8. | | `UPC-E must have number system 0 or 1` | Your UPC-E doesn't start with `0` or `1`. The UPC-E spec requires it. | | `ISBN-13 must be 15 or 17 characters including dashes` | ISBN format expects dashes in specific positions. If you're not selling books, switch to Code 128. | | `AIs must start with opening parenthesis` | GS1-128 requires Application Identifiers wrapped in parentheses. Only use GS1-128 if your supply chain requires it. | For the full troubleshooting reference, see [errors when generating labels](/help/barcodeman/errors-when-generating-labels/). ## Frequently asked questions ### Does BarcodeMan generate valid EAN-13 check digits for me? BarcodeMan prints the barcode value you supply. If you want a valid EAN-13, the 13 digits need to already be valid when they enter Shopify. The app validates but doesn't auto-fix — silently appending a check digit would mean the barcode printed on your label no longer matches what Shopify stores in the `Barcode` field, and your inventory reconciliation breaks. A clean error is safer than a silent data rewrite. ### Can I use Code 128 for in-store POS scanning? Yes. Code 128 scans on virtually every modern POS scanner, every major thermal printer brand (Zebra, Brother, DYMO, Rollo), and every mainstream mobile barcode scanning SDK. Shopify POS reads Code 128 fine. ### Do I need to buy GS1 GTINs for my Shopify store? Only if you sell into channels that require them (Amazon, Walmart, Google Shopping, brick-and-mortar retail chains). For a DTC Shopify store selling only on your own website, internal Code 128 codes are plenty. ### Why does Shopify accept the code but BarcodeMan rejects it? Shopify's `Barcode` field is just a text input — it stores whatever you type. There's no validation that what you entered is a real EAN-13. BarcodeMan validates at print time because the barcode has to actually work when scanned. ### I switched to Code 128 — will labels I already printed still scan? Yes. The labels you already printed encode whatever format they were printed with. The format change only affects new prints. Existing labels in circulation are unaffected. ### What format should I use by default? **Code 128** unless you have a specific reason to use something else. If you sell retail through Amazon / Walmart / GS1-participating chains, use EAN-13 or UPC-A with real GTINs. For everything else — internal inventory, DTC, in-store — Code 128 is the safe default. ## Start printing cleanly If you're not already using BarcodeMan and you're hitting barcode format issues with your current setup, [install it from the Shopify App Store](https://apps.shopify.com/barcode-man). The Free plan prints up to 200 labels per month, with every supported format — Code 128, EAN-13, UPC-A, UPC-E, EAN-8, Code 39, ISBN, GS1-128 — available from day one. Already on BarcodeMan? Swap the template's barcode format to Code 128, save, and the error will stop. Then read the [barcode format guide](/help/barcodeman/barcode-formats/) to decide which format fits each label type you print. --- ## Print Barcode Labels from a Shopify Order (Match Line Item Quantities) - URL: https://gookit.co/blog/print-labels-from-shopify-order/ - Category: tutorial - Published: 2026-04-19 - Updated: 2026-07-19 - Target keyword: print labels from shopify order - Secondary keywords: print barcode labels shopify order, shopify order label quantity, print product labels per order shopify, shopify fulfillment label printing - Products: barcodeman - Audience: Shopify merchants who fulfill orders in-house and need to print barcode labels that match each order's line-item quantities **Summary:** Print exactly the labels you need for a Shopify order — 1 of A, 25 of B, 3 of C — without hand-selecting each SKU. Here's how to set up the order-based flow in BarcodeMan. For Shopify merchants who want to **print labels from a Shopify order** that match the line-item quantities exactly — 1 of product A, 25 of product B, 3 of product C — [BarcodeMan](/barcodeman/)'s order-based workflow pulls the order data directly, so you don't hand-select each SKU and type in each quantity. This guide covers when the order-based flow saves you real time, how the setup works today, the gotchas merchants hit (batch size, draft orders, digital products), and what's changing as Shopify's order and purchase-order APIs evolve. ## Why manual per-SKU selection breaks at scale Handing off a 30-line order to a fulfillment station and typing `A × 1, B × 25, C × 3` into the label app by hand is fine for a small store. At 20 orders a day with 10 line items each, it's 200 manual entries. One typo and you've printed the wrong count for the wrong SKU, shipped incorrectly, and a customer complaint lands in your inbox. The fix is to let the app read the order directly. Line items, quantities, and barcodes are already in Shopify — the label app just needs to hit the order, iterate line items, and queue matching quantities. ## The order-based flow in BarcodeMan The shape of the flow: 1. Open BarcodeMan and start a new print 2. Use the order-based data source (alongside the product, variant, and CSV options) 3. Find the order you want — by number, by date, or by browsing recent orders 4. BarcodeMan reads the order's line items and quantities, and builds a print queue that matches 5. Pick the label template that fits (product, address, shipping) 6. Preview one label, then print the batch The barcode value on each label comes from each variant's **barcode** (or SKU) field on the Shopify product — exactly the same binding as when you print from Products directly. Only the list of *what to print* changes. For the exact click-path in today's BarcodeMan UI, see the [printing flow help article](/help/barcodeman/printing-flow/). ## Order-based workflows we see in practice | Scenario | Setup | What you get | |----------|-------|--------------| | Single-order fulfillment | Select one order | Labels matching each line item's quantity, ready to peel in order | | Batch fulfillment day | Select a range of orders | One combined PDF for the whole batch — easier to load, slower to sort | | Wholesale / B2B bulk | One large order at a time | Same as single-order; batch size matters (see below) | | Restock / replacement | Create a draft order with the SKUs you received, print from it | Lets you use the order flow for non-Shopify receiving events | ## Common gotchas ### Large orders: the print queue can time out Generating 500+ labels in one PDF can push the browser and print pipeline to their limits. One support ticket flagged `486` labels expected, only `345` generated. The fix is to **split the batch** — print 200 labels, then the next 200, then the remainder. Each batch generates cleanly; the alignment of your continuous roll doesn't care about the break. ### Orders with digital line items If an order mixes physical and digital products (e.g. a physical item plus a downloadable PDF), BarcodeMan filters out any line item without a barcode or SKU. No label is generated for the digital row — which is what you want. ### Draft orders as a stand-in for non-order events Received stock from a supplier and need to print the matching labels? Shopify doesn't have a native "receive stock" UI that BarcodeMan reads, but you can create a **draft order** containing the received SKUs and quantities, then run the order flow against it. It's a workaround, not a first-class feature, but it covers the common restock pattern cleanly. ### Cancelled or refunded orders The order data still exists in Shopify after cancellation or refund, and you can still pull labels from it. Whether you *should* is a business decision — usually not, unless you're doing a manual correction or audit. ### What about Stocky purchase orders? Stocky is being retired in August 2026, which affects the PO → label workflow but not the order → label workflow described here. For the Stocky migration plan, see [Stocky Shutdown (Aug 2026): Keep Printing Shopify Labels](/blog/stocky-shutdown-shopify-barcode-labels/). ## Frequently asked questions ### Can I print directly from the Shopify admin order page? Today, no — the print flow starts inside BarcodeMan, and you pick the order from there. A one-click "print labels" button on the Shopify order page is a frequently-requested feature, and Shopify's admin extensibility has evolved enough that it may become practical. Until then, opening BarcodeMan and selecting the order is the native path. ### Can I print multiple orders in one batch? Yes — BarcodeMan concatenates line items from multiple orders into a single PDF when you select several orders at once. Watch the total label count: past ~200 labels, split the batch to avoid print timeouts. ### Will BarcodeMan print labels for cancelled or refunded orders? Yes. The order data persists in Shopify after cancellation, and BarcodeMan can still read it. Use case is rare but occasionally useful for reprints or audits. ### Can each line item use a different label template? Not in a single print run. One print run = one template. If you need different templates per product type (e.g. jewelry tags for some items, shipping labels for others), split the batch by product category and run each with its own template. ### Does this work with Shopify POS orders? Yes. POS orders show up in Shopify's order list the same as online orders. BarcodeMan's order flow reads them identically. ### What if my order has 500 line items? Split it. Run it as two or three 200-label batches. Performance beyond a few hundred labels in a single PDF is printer- and browser-dependent, and a clean split is more reliable than a full batch that may time out midway. ## Start printing If you're not yet using BarcodeMan and you run a Shopify store where orders drive your label printing, [install BarcodeMan from the Shopify App Store](https://apps.shopify.com/barcode-man). The Free plan covers up to 200 labels per month and the order-based flow works from day one. For the broader picture on label workflows — per-product, per-order, per-CSV, and per-PO — see the [printing flow help reference](/help/barcodeman/printing-flow/). If you're migrating off Stocky before August 2026, read the [Stocky shutdown guide](/blog/stocky-shutdown-shopify-barcode-labels/) next. --- ## Retail Barcode Labels Alternative: Migrating to BarcodeMan - URL: https://gookit.co/blog/retail-barcode-labels-alternative-shopify/ - Category: comparison - Published: 2026-04-19 - Updated: 2026-08-14 - Target keyword: retail barcode labels app alternative shopify - Secondary keywords: shopify retail barcode labels replacement, alternative to retail barcode labels shopify, migrate from retail barcode labels, shopify official barcode app - Products: barcodeman - Audience: Shopify merchants currently using Shopify's own Retail Barcode Labels app who are hitting its limitations **Summary:** Shopify's Retail Barcode Labels app is a great starting point, but you hit its ceiling the first time you need a Rollo, a Zebra, a custom size, or a metafield. Here's when — and how — to switch. Shopify's own [**Retail Barcode Labels** app](https://apps.shopify.com/retail-barcode-labels) is free, official, and a useful place to start for basic Code 128 product labels on its supported Avery, DYMO, and Zebra templates. The moment you need dimensions outside those templates, a different printer workflow, or data beyond the standard product fields, it can stop being enough. If you're searching for a **Retail Barcode Labels alternative for your Shopify store**, [BarcodeMan](/barcodeman/) is built for those more flexible scenarios. This guide compares the two apps honestly, shows exactly where the official one hits its ceiling, and walks through a four-step migration you can run side-by-side without disrupting the store. ## What Retail Barcode Labels does well Credit where due: Retail Barcode Labels is free, maintained by Shopify, and requires zero learning curve. If your setup is: - One of its supported Avery, DYMO, or Zebra label templates - Basic Code 128 product labels with standard Shopify fields - Bulk barcode generation and printing from Shopify products ...you don't need a different app. Keep the free one. Everything below only matters if you've already pressed against one of its walls. ## Where it stops working The app is narrow by design. Here are the common walls merchants hit. | Need | Retail Barcode Labels | BarcodeMan | |------|:---:|:---:| | Maintained by Shopify | ✓ | — | | Free basic label printing | ✓ | 200 labels/month | | Avery / DYMO / Zebra presets | ✓ | ✓ | | Rollo / Brother / custom PDF printers | Varies | ✓ | | Exact custom dimensions in mm or inches | Limited | ✓ | | Metafield data on labels | ✕ | ✓ | | QR codes alongside barcodes | ✕ | ✓ | | Scan-to-print a single label in seconds | ✕ | ✓ | | Multi-column Avery / sheet labels | ✓ | ✓ | Some capabilities may evolve, so verify the latest listing and test your exact label stock before switching. The common walls that push merchants toward BarcodeMan today are **dimensions outside the supplied templates**, **printer workflows that need a custom PDF size**, and **metafield data on the label**. If your current pain sounds like “I have a Rollo and none of the sizes fit,” “we need to print from an order, not one SKU at a time,” or “the label needs a metafield,” you have probably outgrown the fixed workflow. Keep reading. ## Four-step migration plan You can run both apps simultaneously. There's no uninstall-first requirement, and your products and barcodes in Shopify are the same data both apps read from. ### 1. Install BarcodeMan alongside Retail Barcode Labels Two apps, one store. No conflicts, and no data migration step — both apps read your existing products and variants directly from Shopify. ### 2. Rebuild your current label template in BarcodeMan Open BarcodeMan's template editor and create a new template. Set the width and height in mm or inches to match the label you're already printing on. Drag in a barcode element and link it to the variant's **barcode** or **SKU** field. Add text elements for product name, price, variant, whatever your old label showed. A typical label can usually be rebuilt in one short setup session. If your real paper size was not available in the old app, this is where that stops being a workaround. ### 3. Test print with the same Shopify products Pick a product you've printed before. Generate a label with BarcodeMan. Compare it against the Retail Barcode Labels output for the same product. The barcode value should match exactly — both apps read the same Shopify variant record. If the print dialog, paper size, and margins are all set correctly, the physical label should come out readable and scannable on the first try. See the [printer setup guide](/help/barcodeman/printer-setup/) if not. ### 4. Uninstall Retail Barcode Labels when you're confident After a week or two of parallel use, uninstall the old app. The Shopify product data stays; only the app's stored templates go away. ## What carries over and what doesn't **Stays the same:** - All your Shopify products and variants - The `Barcode` and `SKU` fields on each variant - Your Shopify POS setup and order history - Every physical label you've already printed — they keep scanning **Needs redoing:** - Label template design — rebuilt manually in BarcodeMan, since DYMO presets don't export into a portable format - Any print history or batch counts specific to the old app The rebuild is the only real "migration" work. Everything else is data that lives in Shopify, independent of whichever label app is asking for it. ## Things to watch during the switch - **Units.** If your old template was in inches and you enter mm in BarcodeMan by accident, the label is wildly the wrong size. Double-check the unit toggle. - **Barcode format.** Retail Barcode Labels defaults to Code 128; BarcodeMan defaults there too. If you had switched to EAN-13 or UPC-A in the old app, set BarcodeMan to match. See [the barcode format guide](/help/barcodeman/barcode-formats/) if you're not sure. - **Print dialog settings.** Zebra, Rollo, and Brother all have their own quirks — see the [Rollo setup guide](/blog/rollo-printer-shopify-barcode-labels/), [Zebra setup guide](/blog/zebra-zd410-zd420-shopify-barcode-labels/), or [Brother QL guide](/blog/brother-ql-shopify-barcode-labels/) for your specific printer. ## Frequently asked questions ### Is Retail Barcode Labels being discontinued? No. Shopify maintains it and there's no announced sunset. The comparison here is about capability, not a shutdown timeline. (Stocky is a different story — see the [Stocky shutdown guide](/blog/stocky-shutdown-shopify-barcode-labels/).) ### Which printers work with BarcodeMan that don't work with Retail Barcode Labels? Shopify's app provides selected Avery, DYMO, and Zebra templates. BarcodeMan's PDF workflow is useful when a Rollo, Brother, or another printer needs dimensions outside that supplied list. Confirm the exact paper size and driver settings with a test print before committing to any app. ### Can I run Retail Barcode Labels and BarcodeMan at the same time? Yes, and we recommend it for the first week or two. Test BarcodeMan against the same products and printers, then uninstall the old app once you're confident. ### Does BarcodeMan cost money? The Free plan prints up to 200 labels per month. Pro is $7.99/month for unlimited labels, and eligible Shopify stores can use one 10-day Pro trial. See [pricing](/barcodeman/pricing/) for details or compare [current Shopify barcode label app prices and limits](/blog/shopify-barcode-label-app-pricing-comparison/). ### Does BarcodeMan work with Shopify POS? Yes. BarcodeMan generates PDFs and prints through the system print dialog, which means it works from any device that can reach Shopify POS — desktop, tablet, iPad. For the retail counter workflow, see [Variant-Aware Scan-to-Print](/blog/variant-aware-scan-to-print-shopify/). ### Will my existing label templates from Retail Barcode Labels import into BarcodeMan? Not as a direct 1:1 import. You rebuild the template in BarcodeMan's editor. The upside is that you can make the improvements the fixed template could not accommodate, such as a different font, a metafield, or a cleaner price block. ## Start the switch If the official app has stopped fitting your workflow, [install BarcodeMan alongside it from the Shopify App Store](https://apps.shopify.com/barcode-man). Use the Free plan or the one-time 10-day Shopify Pro trial, rebuild your first template, run a test batch on your actual printer, and decide from there before removing the old app. For deeper reading on whichever printer you have, the [Rollo](/blog/rollo-printer-shopify-barcode-labels/), [Zebra](/blog/zebra-zd410-zd420-shopify-barcode-labels/), and [Brother QL](/blog/brother-ql-shopify-barcode-labels/) setup guides cover the specific gotchas each brand has on Shopify. --- ## Rollo Printer Setup for Shopify Barcode Labels - URL: https://gookit.co/blog/rollo-printer-shopify-barcode-labels/ - Category: tutorial - Published: 2026-04-19 - Updated: 2026-07-19 - Target keyword: rollo printer shopify barcode labels - Secondary keywords: rollo printer shopify setup, print shopify barcodes rollo, rollo printer barcode app, thermal printer shopify labels - Products: barcodeman - Audience: Shopify merchants using (or buying) a Rollo thermal printer to print product or shipping barcode labels **Summary:** Most Shopify barcode apps only support DYMO sizes. Here's how to set up any Rollo printer with BarcodeMan — custom label sizes in mm or inches, ten-minute setup. To print Shopify barcode labels on a **Rollo printer**, you need a label app that supports custom label dimensions — not just DYMO presets. [BarcodeMan](/barcodeman/) accepts any size in mm or inches, works with any Rollo model your OS can print to, and takes about ten minutes to set up end-to-end. This guide covers why most Shopify barcode apps are DYMO-only, the label sizes Rollo prints for real Shopify stores, the setup walkthrough, and the handful of gotchas that trip up Rollo users — all pulled from actual support tickets. ## Why most Shopify barcode apps are DYMO-only Browse the Shopify App Store and you'll notice a pattern in most barcode label apps: the template size dropdown is full of DYMO part numbers and not much else. This isn't a conspiracy. DYMO dominated Shopify retail printing for a decade, so every app built presets for DYMO's catalog first. But if you own a Rollo, a Zebra, or any thermal printer with custom-sized stock, those presets don't fit you. The workaround in most apps is painful: they give you one or two "custom" slots and expect you to wrestle the math yourself. Margins, offsets, and print dialog paper sizes all have to line up manually, and most merchants give up. BarcodeMan takes the opposite approach — **custom size is the default path**, not the escape hatch. Set your label in mm or inches once, save the template, and reuse it. ## Label sizes Rollo prints on Shopify stores Rollo's 4" × 6" shipping label is the flagship use case, but Shopify merchants use Rollo for plenty of product and price label scenarios. These are the sizes we see most often in support tickets: | Label size | Shopify use case | Typical barcode | |------------|------------------|-----------------| | 4" × 6" (102 × 152 mm) | Shipping labels | Code 128 or carrier-specific | | 2.25" × 1.25" (57 × 32 mm) | Retail product barcode, POS inventory | Code 128 / EAN-13 | | 2" × 1" (51 × 25 mm) | Jewelry, cosmetics, small items | Code 128 | | 1.25" × 1" (32 × 25 mm) | Price tags, shelf inventory | Code 128 | | 3" × 2" (76 × 51 mm) | Hang tags, fashion | Code 128 + product info | If you're unsure which barcode format fits each size, see the [barcode format guide](/help/barcodeman/barcode-formats/). ## Setup in BarcodeMan, step by step Assuming you have a Rollo connected and powered on, here's the full path. ### 1. Install the Rollo driver on your computer Rollo ships drivers for both Windows and macOS — download them from Rollo's support page. On recent macOS, the Rollo often installs without extra software; on Windows, install the driver package before printing or the system will either not see the printer or default to letter-size paper. ### 2. Create a label template Open BarcodeMan and create a new template (or duplicate an existing one that's close to the size you need). In the template settings, set **Width** and **Height** in mm or inches — whatever matches the physical label in your Rollo. For a 2.25" × 1.25" product label, enter `57 mm × 32 mm` or `2.25 in × 1.25 in`. BarcodeMan stores both units so it doesn't matter which you type. ### 3. Place your content Drag a barcode element onto the canvas. Link it to your Shopify product's **barcode** field (or SKU, depending on your setup). Add text elements for product name, price, and variant option as needed. Keep the barcode width at least 25 mm (≈1 inch) for reliable POS scanning. If you're printing on 1.25" × 1" labels, use Code 128 — it's more compact for short alphanumeric SKUs and fits better on small stock than EAN-13. ### 4. Configure the print dialog This is where most Rollo setup goes wrong. When you click **Print** and your OS print dialog appears: - **Printer**: select your Rollo (not "Save as PDF" and not your default office printer) - **Paper size**: set to match the label dimensions you defined in BarcodeMan. If your size isn't in the dropdown, click **Manage Custom Sizes** on macOS or **Preferences → Paper** on Windows and add it manually - **Margins**: set all four to zero — BarcodeMan already handles whitespace inside the template - **Scale**: 100% (never "Fit to page") - **Orientation**: match your template (portrait or landscape) ### 5. Preview, then print bulk Always run a **single-label preview print** before queuing a batch. Check alignment, barcode scannability (scan it with your phone or POS), and legibility of text. Fix once, then print in bulk. For the full printer setup reference across label types, see [printer setup for roll labels](/help/barcodeman/printer-setup-for-roll-label/). ## Common Rollo + Shopify gotchas These come straight from support tickets. If you hit one, jump to the fix. ### "Paper size dropdown only shows 4×6" Rollo sometimes falls back to the 4" × 6" shipping label in the print dialog when the custom size hasn't been registered with the OS. The fix is on the OS side, not the app. - **macOS**: open the print dialog → paper size dropdown → **Manage Custom Sizes** → add a new entry with your label dimensions and zero margins → save → select it in the dialog - **Windows**: Control Panel → Devices and Printers → right-click Rollo → **Printing Preferences → Paper/Quality → Custom Size** → add your dimensions Once saved, the custom size persists across sessions. ### Labels print on letter-size paper instead of the roll The system routed the print to a different printer. Confirm **Rollo** (or the driver's exact name) is selected in the print dialog, not "Save as PDF" or the office printer you used last. ### First batch scans, later labels don't Thermal print heads accumulate dust and residue over long runs. If the first 100 labels scan cleanly but the next 100 don't, the print head likely needs cleaning. Either run a Rollo cleaning card through the printer like a regular label, or power the printer off and wipe the print head manually with a lint-free swab dipped in 70% isopropyl alcohol. Let it dry fully before printing again. Media quality matters too — off-brand thermal stock is inconsistent. Stick with Rollo-brand or a verified compatible roll. ### Content shifted off-center Print dialog margins are not zero. Reset all four margins to 0 and reprint — BarcodeMan controls whitespace inside the template, so any OS-level margin adds double whitespace. ### Barcode too small to scan reliably On 1" × 0.5" or smaller labels, an EAN-13 barcode won't fit cleanly. Switch to Code 128 — it's more compact for short alphanumeric SKUs — and keep the barcode width at or above 25 mm. If your use case demands EAN-13 on tiny labels, the label is simply too small. Use a bigger stock. ## Frequently asked questions ### Does BarcodeMan support all Rollo models? Yes. Rollo prints PDFs natively, and BarcodeMan outputs PDFs. That covers every Rollo model in the current lineup — USB, wireless, and the newer models — as long as your OS can print to it. ### Can I print product labels and Shopify shipping labels on the same Rollo? Yes. Swap the label stock in the printer, swap the template in BarcodeMan, and you're using the same printer for both workflows. Shipping templates live alongside product templates in the same template list. ### Do I need Mac or Windows? Both work. Rollo ships drivers for both. For Linux, check Rollo's support page for the specific model you own — CUPS-based setups are possible for many thermal printers but aren't officially supported the same way. ### Can I import my existing DYMO templates? Not directly as a 1:1 import, but you can duplicate a DYMO template in BarcodeMan, resize the canvas to Rollo dimensions, and the data bindings (product name, SKU, barcode field, price) carry over. You'll reposition elements once, then save as a new template. ### Is 203 DPI enough for barcode scanning? Yes for almost all retail use. The classic Rollo runs at 203 DPI, which reads cleanly on every modern POS scanner. If you're printing tiny barcodes (under 25 mm wide) or you need crisper text for FBA / retail compliance, consider a 300 DPI model — but for most Shopify POS, shelves, and jewelry-tag workflows, 203 DPI is fine. ### What label format works best on a Rollo for Shopify POS? Code 128 is the safe default for **Rollo printer Shopify barcode labels** in an in-store POS workflow. It handles any alphanumeric SKU, fits well in small spaces, and scans reliably at 203 DPI. Use EAN-13 only if you have real GS1 GTINs and sell through marketplaces that require them. ## Start printing If you're evaluating Rollo and want a Shopify-side setup that actually fits it, [install BarcodeMan from the Shopify App Store](https://apps.shopify.com/barcode-man). The Free plan prints up to 200 labels per month, and every label size and format is available from day one — no DYMO presets in the way. Already running Rollo + BarcodeMan? The [printer setup reference](/help/barcodeman/printer-setup/) covers roll, sheet, and multi-column label flows, and the support team reads every email sent to `hi@gookit.co`. --- ## Stocky Shutdown (Aug 2026): Keep Printing Shopify Labels - URL: https://gookit.co/blog/stocky-shutdown-shopify-barcode-labels/ - Category: industry-insight - Published: 2026-04-19 - Target keyword: stocky replacement shopify - Secondary keywords: stocky shutdown barcode labels, stocky alternative shopify, shopify native purchase order barcode labels, shopify purchase order label printing - Products: barcodeman - Audience: Shopify merchants who use Stocky to receive purchase orders and print barcode labels **Summary:** Shopify retires Stocky in August 2026. The real Stocky replacement for Shopify barcode labels isn't another third-party app. Here's what to do. Shopify is retiring Stocky in August 2026. If you've been searching for a **Stocky replacement for your Shopify store** — specifically to keep printing barcode labels after purchase orders — the answer isn't another third-party app. Here's what's actually changing, what [BarcodeMan](/barcodeman/) is building to replace the Stocky workflow, and the three things you can do today to stay ahead of the deadline.
Stocky PURCHASE ORDERS RETIRES AUGUST 2026 BarcodeMan NATIVE PO UI KEEPS PRINTING
## What's happening to Stocky Stocky is scheduled to be retired in August 2026. Merchants who receive stock, create POs, or print barcodes from POs all run through Stocky today — after August, that path is gone. Shopify is replacing Stocky with **native Purchase Orders built directly into the admin**. You'll find them under the inventory section. No separate app to install, no extra subscription. There's one catch that nobody is saying out loud: **Shopify has not opened a public Purchase Order API.** As of April 2026, third-party apps cannot read the data in Shopify's native POs. That means any app you rely on to work with your POs — including BarcodeMan — is currently blocked at the API level. This is the real problem to solve, not the shutdown itself. ## What you'll keep — and what you'll lose Most of the anxiety around the Stocky shutdown is misplaced. Here's a straight breakdown: **What you keep:** - All your BarcodeMan label templates - Every printer setup you've configured — Zebra, Rollo, DYMO, Brother, anything - Your barcode and SKU data on Shopify products and variants - Your monthly label volume and billing - Every label you've already printed **What you lose:** - The single import path inside BarcodeMan that pulls products from a Stocky PO That's it. One import path — not your templates, not your data, not your muscle memory. If your entire workflow felt like it was about to collapse, this is the part that matters. The label printing piece is stable. Only the upstream source of the "what to print" list is moving. ## What BarcodeMan is building BarcodeMan is building a **native Purchase Order UI directly inside the app**. No external dependency. No third-party PO manager. If Shopify's API opens, BarcodeMan will read directly from Shopify. If it stays closed, BarcodeMan's own PO UI works standalone. Follow the [BarcodeMan changelog](/barcodeman/changelog/) if you want to watch it ship in real time. Two things BarcodeMan is deliberately **not** doing: **Not recommending another third-party PO manager.** Every third-party PO tool carries the same risk that Stocky just made concrete: the tool can disappear, and your workflow goes with it. Switching to another PO manager keeps you in the same seat, waiting for the next sunset. **Not forcing you onto a workaround.** CSV uploads and manual imports are fine as interim steps. They are not a long-term workflow for a merchant doing weekly receiving. The goal is to have BarcodeMan's native PO UI ready before Stocky's actual retirement — so the transition is one login, not a migration project. ## What to do today Depending on how you run receiving, one of these three options fits. ### Option A — Keep using Stocky until August Stocky still works. Your current BarcodeMan × Stocky integration still works. Nothing is broken today. If you're not in a rush and your volume is steady, the cleanest move is: 1. Keep doing what you're doing 2. Get on the native PO UI beta list (instructions at the end of this post) 3. Switch once the new workflow is available, ahead of the Stocky retirement Best for merchants whose current workflow isn't on fire. ### Option B — Print from Shopify orders instead of POs Not every merchant actually needs a formal PO. If you receive small batches — ten items from a local supplier, a one-off restock — you can skip the PO workflow entirely. For small batches, you can skip the PO step and use an existing Shopify order as the label source. BarcodeMan can pull the line items from an order and print labels matching those quantities. No PO required. Best for small or ad-hoc receiving. Doesn't scale to hundreds of SKUs but handles the common case well. ### Option C — Upload a CSV If your inventory lives in a system Shopify doesn't integrate with — an external WMS, a supplier spreadsheet, a 3PL export — the simplest path is a CSV. BarcodeMan supports bulk CSV uploads — a simple SKU-and-quantity file is enough. Upload the file, pick a template, print. This works the day Stocky goes dark. Best for cross-system merchants and large batches where manual selection in the admin is slower than exporting a CSV. ## Migration timeline Put these dates in your calendar now:

Stocky is scheduled to be retired during August 2026. A specific day within the month hasn't been published publicly. Check Shopify's official communications for the latest date. ### Will my existing BarcodeMan label templates still work after Stocky shuts down? Yes. Templates, printer settings, and label designs all live inside [BarcodeMan](/barcodeman/). They don't depend on Stocky and nothing about them changes. ### Do I need to migrate to a different barcode label app? No. The only thing changing is how BarcodeMan gets the list of products to print labels for. The label printing itself — templates, printers, data binding, bulk output — is unaffected. ### Can I use Shopify's native Purchase Orders with BarcodeMan today? Not yet. Shopify hasn't opened its Purchase Order API to third-party apps. BarcodeMan will integrate the moment they do. In parallel, BarcodeMan is building a native PO UI so the workflow doesn't depend on Shopify's API timeline. ### Should I use a different Stocky replacement app on my Shopify store? Not recommended. Every third-party PO tool carries the same sunset risk Stocky just made real. The long-term answer is a PO flow owned by the same app that prints your labels — which is why BarcodeMan is building this in-house instead of pointing you at a different vendor. ### What about partial PO receiving — if I get 20 of 30 items? Partial receiving is on the roadmap for BarcodeMan's native PO UI. It's one of the Stocky patterns being explicitly preserved — merchants who split deliveries shouldn't lose that workflow. ### Will there be a migration tool for historical Stocky PO data? That's being evaluated. If historical POs matter for your reporting or audit, let the BarcodeMan team know at [hi@gookit.co](mailto:hi@gookit.co) — migration decisions are being made based on what merchants actually need to carry forward. ## Get notified when the native PO workflow launches The BarcodeMan team is shipping a native Purchase Order UI before Stocky retires. Early merchants will get beta access. If you want to be notified the moment it launches, email [hi@gookit.co](mailto:hi@gookit.co) with the subject line **"PO UI beta"** and the Shopify store domain you run. You'll hear the day it's ready. If you're not on BarcodeMan yet, [install it from the Shopify App Store](https://apps.shopify.com/barcode-man) — you'll have your label templates and printers set up long before the Stocky deadline matters. --- ## Variant-Aware Scan-to-Print for Shopify (Skip the Picker) - URL: https://gookit.co/blog/variant-aware-scan-to-print-shopify/ - Category: tutorial - Published: 2026-04-19 - Updated: 2026-07-19 - Target keyword: shopify scan barcode variant print - Secondary keywords: shopify scan to print label, scan variant barcode shopify pos, handheld scanner shopify barcode labels, variant aware label printing - Products: barcodeman - Audience: Shopify retail staff and fulfillment teams who want to scan a variant barcode and have the label app jump straight to that variant without a manual picker **Summary:** If scanning a Shopify variant barcode opens a picker instead of jumping to the right label, the fix is usually on the Shopify side, not the app. Here's how to set it up properly. If your retail staff scans a barcode on a Shopify product variant and the label app pops open a picker asking which variant to use, the problem usually isn't the app — it's that the Shopify variant doesn't have its own unique barcode. Once each variant has a unique code, [BarcodeMan](/barcodeman/)'s **Scan and Print** feature goes straight from scan to label with no picker in the middle. This guide explains why the picker appears, how to structure your Shopify data so scanning lands on the right variant, and the scan-to-print workflow that retail staff can actually use at speed. ## Why scanning shows a variant picker Shopify's `Barcode` field lives on the **variant**, not the product. A product with three sizes (Small / Medium / Large) has three variants and therefore three separate barcode slots. The problem: many merchants fill in the product-level SKU and leave the variants' barcode field blank, or copy the same barcode across every size. When a label app scans a barcode and gets multiple matches — or finds the value on the product but not on any specific variant — it has no way to know which size you meant. The only safe behavior is to surface a picker and let the user choose. The fix is on the Shopify side: give each variant its own unique barcode. Once you do, scanning unambiguously identifies one variant and the app can skip the picker entirely. ## The Scan and Print workflow in BarcodeMan BarcodeMan has a dedicated **Scan and Print** page designed for this exact workflow — scan, print, scan, print, at the speed of a retail counter. 1. Open BarcodeMan and find the **Scan and Print** card on the Home page (it's not in the sidebar, only on the home view) 2. Click into the barcode input field so it has keyboard focus 3. Scan a variant's barcode with a handheld scanner, type it manually, or paste it 4. If the value matches exactly one variant, BarcodeMan queues the label and is ready for the next scan 5. When you're done scanning, print the batch Most USB and Bluetooth handheld scanners emulate keyboard input — they "type" the scanned code into whatever field has focus. That means most retail-grade scanners work with BarcodeMan's Scan and Print out of the box, with no special driver or app pairing. If your scanner has a configuration setting for "keyboard wedge" or "HID mode", make sure it's enabled. If a scanned barcode prints but a scanner later fails to read it, that is a separate problem — see [Printed Barcode Won't Scan](/help/barcodeman/fix-barcode-not-scanning/) in the help center. ## Making your variants scannable If scanning currently shows a picker, run through the Shopify product list once and audit the barcode field on every variant. ### Option 1: Assign real GS1 / UPC barcodes per variant If you already have purchased GTINs (from GS1 or a supplier) or real UPC-A codes, paste the correct one into each variant's barcode field. This is the right move for merchants who sell into Amazon, Walmart, or other GTIN-verifying channels. ### Option 2: Generate internal barcodes per variant For merchants who only need internal / in-store scanning, BarcodeMan's **SKU generator** can create unique codes for every variant in one pass. Each variant gets its own scannable Code 128 barcode without any GS1 registration. See [the SKU generator help article](/help/barcodeman/sku-generator/) for the exact flow, and [the barcode format guide](/help/barcodeman/barcode-formats/) for why Code 128 is the right default for internal codes. ### Option 3: CSV import a barcode column If you have barcodes in a spreadsheet, Shopify's product CSV import accepts a `Variant Barcode` column. Fill it per variant row, upload the CSV, and Shopify applies the barcodes. Whichever path you take, the test is the same: **each variant ends up with a unique value in the barcode field**. Once that's true, Scan and Print jumps straight from scan to label. ## Common scan-to-print gotchas ### "Not ready" status The scanner's output has nowhere to go. Click into the barcode input on the Scan and Print page so it has keyboard focus, then scan again. Most scanners only "type" into the focused element, just like a keyboard. ### Scan succeeds but finds no product The scanned value doesn't exist in any variant's barcode or SKU field on Shopify. Either the variant wasn't set up, or the barcode field has extra spaces / characters that don't match. Copy the scanned value and paste it into Shopify's product search to confirm which record it maps to. ### Same barcode across variants still shows the picker That's the root cause covered above — not a bug, a data issue. Give each variant its own unique barcode. ### iPhone / iPad camera scanning is unreliable Phone cameras work for a few scans but aren't designed for retail speed. For a POS counter or fulfillment station, use a USB or Bluetooth handheld scanner in keyboard wedge mode. Entry-level scanners are inexpensive and work instantly with Scan and Print. ## Frequently asked questions ### Do I have to use a handheld scanner? No. The barcode input accepts typed or pasted values. A handheld scanner just makes retail-speed workflows practical — typing is fine for occasional scans. ### Does a Bluetooth scanner work? Yes, as long as it supports HID keyboard mode (most retail scanners do). Pair it to your computer or iPad the same way you'd pair a Bluetooth keyboard, then click into the barcode input before scanning. ### Can I use the Shopify POS hardware scanner? Yes — POS hardware scanners emit keyboard input, which is all Scan and Print needs. The only constraint is that the BarcodeMan Scan and Print page must be the focused app / tab for the scan to land there. ### Can I scan multiple items and then print them together? Yes. Each successful scan queues one label. Scan through the batch, check the queue, then print once at the end. This is the typical pattern for reprinting after restock. ### What's the difference between scanning an SKU vs a barcode? BarcodeMan's Scan and Print matches against both the variant's SKU and its barcode fields. Either one works, as long as the scanned value is unique across your catalog. ### How does this compare to just printing from the product list? Scan and Print is for the single-item, in-the-moment flow — someone hands you a mystery item and you need a label for it right now. Printing from the product list is for batch work when you already know the SKUs. Both exist because both workflows are real. ## Start printing If you're setting up a retail counter or fulfillment station that needs **Shopify scan-barcode-variant-print** in a single step, [install BarcodeMan from the Shopify App Store](https://apps.shopify.com/barcode-man). Scan and Print is available out of the box, and the Free plan covers up to 200 labels a month for stores testing the workflow. Before your first shift, run the variant barcode audit above so scanning lands on the right variant every time. Here's the setup flow for ZD410, ZD420, and ZD421 on Shopify — plus the rotation fix that trips up every new Zebra user. To print **Zebra ZD410 Shopify barcode labels** — or get the same workflow on a ZD420 / ZD421 — you need a label app that handles custom label dimensions and accounts for Zebra's peculiar orientation behavior. [BarcodeMan](/barcodeman/) prints PDFs straight to any Zebra driver, supports any label size in mm or inches, and has a specific fix for the rotation trap that catches almost every new Zebra user. This guide covers which Zebra model suits a Shopify store, what sizes they print, the setup flow end-to-end, and the two most common gotchas (orientation rotation and blurry labels) with exact fixes pulled from real support tickets. ## Why Zebra is the Shopify retail workhorse Zebra thermal printers are the default for bricks-and-mortar retail, pharmacies, logistics, and any workflow that prints hundreds of labels a day. Compared to DYMO's consumer-grade LabelWriter line, Zebra is industrial: sturdier, better print heads, wider media support, and more connectivity. The flip side: Zebras have more settings to tune. The orientation trap we'll cover below is a clean example — a setting buried inside the Zebra driver overrides whatever you told your label app. Once you know about it, it's a 30-second fix. Without that fix, every label prints rotated. ## ZD410 vs ZD420 vs ZD421 — pick the right one All three are part of Zebra's compact desktop line. They all work with BarcodeMan on Shopify. The differences that actually matter for a Shopify store: | Model | DPI | Connectivity | Best for | |-------|-----|--------------|----------| | **ZD410** | 203 | USB by default; separate SKUs add Wi-Fi or Bluetooth | Retail stores, 1"–2.5" product labels, most Shopify POS setups | | **ZD420** | 203 | USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth variants | Same label needs as ZD410 with network printing in a back office | | **ZD421** | 203 or 300 | USB plus multi-connectivity | When you need 300 DPI for small labels, dense barcodes, or marketplace compliance | Specs evolve with firmware and model revisions — check Zebra's current datasheet before buying. For most Shopify merchants running an in-store POS or a mixed ecommerce + brick-and-mortar store, the ZD410 is the right default. Step up to the 300 DPI ZD421 only if you're printing labels smaller than 1 inch wide or you have GS1 / FBA-style scanning tolerances to hit. ## Label sizes Zebra prints for Shopify merchants | Size | Shopify use case | |------|------------------| | 2.25" × 1.25" (57 × 32 mm) | Retail product barcode, POS inventory | | 2" × 1" (51 × 25 mm) | Small items, cosmetics, food | | 3" × 2" (76 × 51 mm) | Hang tags, fashion | | 2.2" × 0.5" (56 × 13 mm) | Jewelry strip / barbell tags | | 4" × 6" (102 × 152 mm) | Shipping labels | If you're unsure which barcode format to use on each size, see the [barcode format guide](/help/barcodeman/barcode-formats/). Short answer: Code 128 covers almost everything; use EAN-13 only when a real GS1 GTIN is in play. ## Setup in BarcodeMan, step by step Assuming your Zebra is powered on and connected, here's the full path. ### 1. Install the Zebra driver Download the driver for your model from Zebra's support page. On Windows, Zebra Setup Utilities also helps detect the printer and register it in the OS. On macOS, the CUPS-based driver is standard. Without the driver, the system either won't see the Zebra or will route prints to a different default printer. ### 2. Create a label template In BarcodeMan, create or duplicate a template. Set **Width** and **Height** to match your physical Zebra label — for a classic 2.25" × 1.25" retail label, enter `57 mm × 32 mm` or `2.25 in × 1.25 in`. BarcodeMan stores both units, so pick whichever matches your supplier's spec sheet. ### 3. Place your content Drop a barcode element on the canvas and link it to your Shopify product's **barcode** or **SKU** field. Add text for product name, price, and variant as needed. Keep the barcode at least 25 mm wide for reliable POS scanning at 203 DPI. ### 4. Configure the print dialog This is where Zebra setup usually goes wrong. In the print dialog: - **Printer**: select your Zebra (not "Save as PDF" or the office laser) - **Paper size**: match the template dimensions exactly. If your size isn't listed, add a custom size in the printer's preferences - **Margins**: zero on all four sides — BarcodeMan handles whitespace inside the template - **Scale**: 100%, never "Fit to page" - **Orientation**: match your template ### 5. Preview, check, then bulk-print Print one label, scan it with your phone or POS to verify the barcode decodes, confirm alignment, then print the batch. For the full setup reference that covers roll, sheet, and multi-column variants, see the [printer setup guide](/help/barcodeman/printer-setup/). ## The Zebra orientation trap (fix this once) The most common Zebra complaint on Shopify: the label prints rotated 90 degrees no matter what you pick for orientation in BarcodeMan or the print dialog. This is the Zebra driver's own rotation setting overriding everything above it. The fix is in the Zebra driver, not the app: 1. Open your operating system's printer settings (macOS: System Settings → Printers; Windows: Control Panel → Devices and Printers) 2. Select your Zebra and open its **Printing Preferences** or **Advanced Options** 3. Find the **Orientation** or **Rotation** field (often labeled `Rotation`, sometimes under an `Advanced Setup` tab) 4. Set it to **None** — not Portrait, not Landscape, literally `None` 5. Apply and close Once set to None, the Zebra respects whatever orientation BarcodeMan sends. You'll only need to do this once per Zebra per computer. For step-by-step screenshots of this fix, see the [Zebra printer orientation help article](/help/barcodeman/zebra-printer-orientation-issues/). ## Other common Zebra + Shopify gotchas ### Blurry labels or weird dot patterns If labels look fuzzy, pixelated, or show a dot pattern, the cause is usually one of three things: - **Darkness too low.** In the Zebra driver's preferences, raise **Darkness** by one or two steps — a pale thermal burn shows up as speckle or dots - **Media quality.** Off-brand direct-thermal media is uneven and prints inconsistently. Stick with Zebra-branded media or a verified compatible direct-thermal roll - **Template resolution vs. printer DPI.** If you're sending a low-resolution label design to a 300 DPI ZD421, edges look stepped. Replace any low-res logo or product image in the template with a vector SVG or a higher-resolution source file — the barcode itself is vector-clean either way ### Labels print on letter-size paper instead of the roll The system routed the print to a different printer. Check that the Zebra (not "Save as PDF" and not the default office printer) is selected in the print dialog. ### Content cut off at the edge of the label Zebra driver has a non-zero default margin for some label sizes. Go into **Printing Preferences → Options / Margins** and zero it out. BarcodeMan already handles whitespace inside the template, so any OS-level margin is additive and pushes content off the label. ### Zebra doesn't show up when printing from an iPad USB-only Zebra models can't be reached from an iPad. You need a Wi-Fi or Bluetooth variant, and the iPad needs to be on the same network. ZD421 has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth options at purchase; the classic USB ZD410 without the optional radio module won't work wirelessly. ## Frequently asked questions ### Which Zebra model should a small Shopify store buy? **ZD410** for most merchants — 203 DPI handles every common retail label size. Step up to the **ZD421** with 300 DPI only if you print labels under 1 inch wide or need crisper text / denser barcodes (for example, GS1 compliance or Amazon FBA). If you need wireless printing, pick the ZD420 or a Wi-Fi / Bluetooth variant of the ZD410. ### Can I use Shopify POS on an iPad with a Zebra? Yes, with a Zebra model that has Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. USB-only Zebras won't work from an iPad. Pair the Zebra on the same Wi-Fi network as the iPad, add it as a system printer, then print from BarcodeMan's PDF output. ### Does BarcodeMan use ZPL? No. BarcodeMan generates PDFs and prints through the standard OS print dialog. You don't need to touch ZPL, ZebraDesigner, or Zebra's proprietary label design software — the Zebra driver translates the PDF into something its print head understands. ### Can I use an older Zebra like an LP 2824 or GK420? Yes, if the driver is still downloadable from Zebra's support page. Older models max out at 203 DPI and sometimes have narrower media support, but the BarcodeMan workflow is identical. ### Why are my labels coming out too dark or too light? The Zebra driver's **Darkness** setting. Open **Printing Preferences → Darkness**. Higher values = darker labels, lower = lighter. Start at the driver's default and adjust by 1–2 units until the barcode is crisp and the text is legible. ### How does this compare to a Rollo? Zebra is more industrial — better build, more configuration, more expensive. Rollo is simpler and cheaper, also great for Shopify. If you already have a Rollo, see the [Rollo setup guide](/blog/rollo-printer-shopify-barcode-labels/); the BarcodeMan workflow is the same, the driver details differ. ## Start printing If you're evaluating Zebra and want a Shopify-side app that fits any Zebra label size, [install BarcodeMan from the Shopify App Store](https://apps.shopify.com/barcode-man). The Free plan prints up to 200 labels per month, and every label size is custom — no DYMO-only dropdowns, no ZPL to learn. Already on Zebra + BarcodeMan and fighting the rotation issue? Jump straight to the [Zebra orientation fix](/help/barcodeman/zebra-printer-orientation-issues/). For anything else, the support team reads every email sent to `hi@gookit.co`. --- ## Why Shopify merchants need barcode labels (and when they don't) - URL: https://gookit.co/blog/why-shopify-merchants-need-barcode-labels/ - Category: industry-insight - Published: 2026-04-18 - Target keyword: shopify barcode labels - Secondary keywords: when to use barcodes shopify, small business barcode inventory - Audience: Shopify store owners doing 50-500 orders/month who handle fulfillment themselves **Summary:** The real cost of running a Shopify store without barcodes, and how to tell if you actually need them yet. Most Shopify guides tell you to print barcodes from day one. That is wrong. Barcodes have a real cost — time to set up, labels to buy, a scanner to maintain — and under a certain order volume they are not worth it. ## When barcodes are not worth it yet If all three are true, skip barcodes for now: - You fulfill fewer than 20 orders per day - You have fewer than 100 SKUs - You know every product by sight At this scale, a spreadsheet and a keen eye beat a scanner. The cognitive overhead of scanning every item is larger than the mistake rate you are trying to fix. ## When barcodes start paying off The moment any of these become true, set up barcodes today: - **Multiple people pick orders.** The first time a new employee ships the wrong variant, you have just paid for the scanner three times over. - **You sell multi-variant products.** Black medium vs. black large is the #1 shipping error. Barcodes eliminate it. - **You hold inventory in more than one location.** Receiving without scanning is guesswork. - **You do consignment or wholesale.** Buyers expect labeled cartons. ## The math A single mispicked order costs roughly: - Return shipping (paid by you if brand-promise): $8 - Restocking time: 10 min × labor cost - Customer-service time: 15 min × labor cost - Lifetime value hit from a bad review: hard to measure, often large Even at $30/mistake, a 1% error rate on 300 orders/month is $90/month you are handing to the void. A label printer pays for itself in three weeks. ## What to use You already have barcode data — Shopify stores a barcode field on every variant. The missing piece is a way to print that barcode onto a physical label when you receive stock, and a way to scan it when you ship. That is exactly what [BarcodeMan](/) does, without asking you to restructure how your store works. ## Start small Print labels only for your top 20 SKUs by volume. That is ~80% of your shipping errors avoided. Expand from there. ---
