Troubleshooting Common Issues

Fixes for the most-reported Barcodeman problems — blank prints, variant limits, PDF timeouts, disabled search, missing barcodes, misaligned sheets, scanner "not ready", and missing metafields.

Labels not printing / blank page

Cause: Your browser is blocking pop-ups. The app opens a PDF in a new tab.

Fix:

  1. Go to Settings in Barcode Man.
  2. Turn on Ignore browser pop-ups blocker.
  3. Also allow pop-ups for the app in your browser settings.

”Too many variants selected (max 300)”

Cause: You tried to select more than 300 variants at once.

Fix: Select up to 300 variants, click Add, then go back and select the next batch.

PDF generation timed out

Cause: The label generation took more than 25 seconds. This happens with complex templates or slow connections.

Fix:

  1. Try printing fewer labels at a time (split into smaller batches).
  2. Simplify your template if it has many elements or high-resolution images.
  3. Check your internet connection and try again.

Search box is disabled in product selection

Cause: You have a Collection or Saved Search filter active. The search box is disabled when a filter is selected.

Fix: Change the Collection dropdown back to “Collection…” (the default) to re-enable the search box.

Barcode not showing on label

Cause: The barcode data is empty or the format does not match the data.

Fix:

  1. Check that the product has a barcode value in Shopify. Go to the product in Shopify admin and check the Barcode field.
  2. Make sure the barcode format matches your data. For example, EAN-13 needs exactly 13 digits. If your data is different, try CODE128 instead.
  3. Use the SKU Generator to create barcode values for products that are missing them.

Template looks different when printed

Cause: The print settings in your browser may override the template layout.

Fix:

  1. In the browser print dialog, set margins to “None” or “Minimum”.
  2. Make sure “Scale” is set to 100% (not “Fit to page”).
  3. Turn off “Headers and footers” in the print dialog.

Labels are misaligned on the sheet

Cause: The template size does not match your actual label sheet.

Fix:

  1. Open the template and click Configure.
  2. Check the label dimensions (width, height) and margins match your label sheet.
  3. If using a known brand (like Avery), select the correct brand and model. The dimensions will be set automatically.
  4. If printing on a partially used sheet, use the Skip Labels option in the Generate Labels dialog to skip the already-used positions.

”Not ready” status on Scan and Print

Cause: The barcode scanner is not connected or not detected by the browser.

Fix:

  1. Make sure your barcode scanner is plugged in and turned on.
  2. Try clicking inside the “Enter SKU or Barcode” text box first, then scan.
  3. You can also type the SKU or barcode number manually and click Enter.

Metafield not showing on label

Cause: The metafield is not set on the product, or the wrong metafield is selected.

Fix:

  1. Check that the product has the metafield value set in Shopify admin.
  2. In the template editor, select the element and check the Link To dropdown. Make sure the correct metafield (namespace.key) is selected.
  3. Product metafields and variant metafields are different. Make sure you chose the right type.
