API access

Does BarcodeMan have an API?

Yes. Gookit Label API generates product and inventory labels from JSON and reusable templates. It can return a PNG preview or create a batch PDF for your print workflow.

Use the Shopify access path for your store, or a developer account for an independent integration.

I use BarcodeMan on Shopify. Where do I start?

In Shopify admin, open BarcodeMan → Settings → Open API. Use that page to create a merchant API key and open the Label Editor for your store. Shopify merchant keys begin with gkapp_.

Check the API subscription for that store before generating output. A BarcodeMan app subscription and an independent developer plan are different access paths.

Read the API access instructions

For another BarcodeMan platform, contact support to confirm the available API access path for your store.

Can I use the API without a BarcodeMan app or a Shopify store?

Yes. Create an independent Gookit developer account, then open Settings → API Keys. Developer keys begin with gkdev_. You can use the API from software that sends HTTPS requests with JSON.

Keep the key on your server. Create and use templates within the same account; do not assume a merchant key and a developer key share access to templates.

What do I need to generate my first label PDF?

Prepare an API key for your chosen access path, a saved label template, product data, and a copy count for each record. Submit a print job, check its status, and download the PDF when it is complete.

The API generates the file; your application or print workflow sends it to a printer. Review the Gookit Label API overview for the product scope, or read the setup guide for the request format.

General

What printers work with BarcodeMan?

Thermal label, inkjet, and laser printers can work if they can print a PDF from your computer. We recommend 300 dpi or higher for small text and detailed barcodes. At lower resolutions, size the barcode appropriately and test scanning. See Printer setup.

Does BarcodeMan work with Shopify POS?

Yes. Print the value from the variant’s Barcode or SKU field, and test that scanning the label finds the intended variant in Shopify POS. Keep existing supplier barcodes when available.

See SKU and barcode generator for assigning missing values, and Shopify’s product search guide for scanning barcodes and SKUs.

Can I print labels from orders (not just products)?

Yes. Use Address Labels for order and recipient data, or Product Labels to print labels for products in an order.

Can I print barcodes without making labels?

Create a template with just a Barcode element and minimal margins. See Create your first template for the setup steps.

Does this app generate real UPC/EAN/GTIN codes?

No. BarcodeMan generates identifiers for internal inventory and checkout use. Choosing an EAN or UPC format does not register the number with GS1. Do not submit internally generated codes as registered GTINs to Amazon, Google Shopping, or other platforms.

See SKU and barcode generator for the limits of generated codes.

Can I print GS1 barcodes I already own?

Yes. Use the GS1-issued value assigned to the product and choose its matching barcode format, such as EAN-13 for an EAN-13 value. In Shopify, save it in the correct variant’s Barcode field and link your Barcode element to that field. Preview the label before printing.

See Syncing barcodes with Shopify products for entering or importing values, and the Barcode format guide for supported formats.

If a manufacturer’s product already has a GTIN, use that identifier; ask the manufacturer if you need it. For your own new products that need GTINs, obtain them through GS1. Amazon’s GTIN guide explains both paths.

Can I list a product on Amazon or Google Shopping without a GTIN?

Sometimes, depending on the product and the platform’s requirements. These exceptions do not turn an internally generated code into a registered GTIN.

  • Google Shopping: Use identifier_exists=false (or no for supported feed formats) only when you are certain no unique product identifiers have been assigned. An empty field in your store is not enough reason to use it. Follow Google’s identifier exists requirements.
  • Amazon: You may be able to add an offer to an existing catalog listing. Otherwise, a product without a GTIN may qualify for an exemption, subject to eligibility and approval. Check Amazon’s GTIN and exemption guide for the requirements.

Printing

How do I print after I preview?

Generate the PDF, then use your browser or PDF viewer’s print button (Ctrl+P / Cmd+P). Match the paper size and use 100% / Actual size. Follow Print your first labels and Printer setup for a test run.

Can I download the labels as a PDF file?

Yes. Choose Download when generating labels. See How printing works for the controls in your interface, including PDF download when Cloud Print is connected.

Why is my printer printing blank labels?

Check the PDF first. If the barcode is missing there too, follow Barcode not showing on label.

If the PDF looks correct but the printer feeds extra blank labels before printing the design, see Thermal printer feeds blank labels before printing. For other paper or scaling problems, check Printer setup.

Why doesn’t the PDF open?

Check the app’s message. If the PDF is ready, follow Browser blocks popup window when printing. If generation timed out, see PDF generation timed out.

What paper/label size should I use?

Match the template to the labels you have: roll, multi-column, or sheet. Check the dimensions or the brand and model on the packaging. See Label templates to identify your paper and choose the matching guide.

Does BarcodeMan remember my last used settings?

BarcodeMan can restore your last selected template. Before printing, check that the template matches your paper and review the printer’s paper size and scale. See Printer setup for those checks.

Barcodes & SKUs

What’s the difference between SKU and Barcode?

SKU (Stock Keeping Unit) is an internal inventory code. A barcode is a scannable representation of a value. Your store keeps SKU and Barcode values in separate fields on each variant.

Your label’s Link To setting chooses which field to print. See Link To for the available sources.

How do I assign barcodes to my products?

Use SKU and barcode generator to fill missing Barcode values in selected variants. Assign writes to your store and skips existing values. Check for duplicates before printing; generated codes are not guaranteed to be unique.

How do I use my own SKU numbers as barcodes?

Set the Barcode element’s Link To source to SKU. To also copy SKUs into Barcode fields, use Sync with sku in the new interface; existing destination values are skipped. In the earlier interface, edit the variant in Shopify. See SKU and barcode generator.

Several products have the same barcode: how do I fix this?

Correct the affected variants’ values in your store admin, keeping valid supplier-assigned barcodes. Generating new numbers does not guarantee uniqueness; syncing SKUs copies source duplicates. Read SKU and barcode generator before assigning replacements.

Templates

Can I duplicate a template?

Yes. Duplicate it from the Templates page. See Template list for the steps for your interface.

How do I change the barcode format on my template?

Select the Barcode element and change Barcode Type in the properties panel. See the Barcode format guide for supported formats and their data requirements.

Can I use Avery labels?

Yes. Match the sheet size and label dimensions to your Avery model. See Sheet label template for setup steps.

Billing

Does BarcodeMan offer discounts or annual billing?

No. BarcodeMan does not currently offer discounts or annual billing.

How do I cancel or downgrade my plan?

Open subscription management from BarcodeMan Settings, or manage the app subscription through Shopify or Wix. Manage API plans billed to your store through the same store platform. If you subscribed through the Gookit Developer Portal, manage that separate subscription in the portal.

See Upgrade, downgrade, or cancel your plan for the steps and when changes take effect.

What counts as a “label” in my usage quota?

Each label generated counts as one unit, regardless of whether you actually print it.
